service cable

I was visiting a friends new rental home today and saw he had the homes service cable running over his pool. The wires were stacked coming off the pole. Power on top, cable and phone underneath. Approximately 9 - 10 feet off the pool deck.

Are there specific rules for pools, or would the normal clearance over a deck and walkway apply?

Thanks.

From the NEC

22.5 feet above the water, 14.5 feet above any structure you can stand on.

The Illustrated Home sketches are a little different. I’d say the NEC as shown above trumps this though:

Those schetches are outdated. The clearances were increased to the ones Greg posted as of the 1999 NEC.

OK I just noticed in the 99 code the clearances were raised to 22 feet and 14 feet, and in the 02 code they are 22.5 feet and 14.5 feet, another six inches.
