Is that an LVL? How many plys ? They notched it so it may not work out anymore. Also how is the plys fastened together?

The one that is notched is a parallam or (PSL) and one picture shows a PSL with the LVL x 2.

The sparkle could be from the use of Bora care. It is used to treat for fungi, and mold.

These shims are full width of the beam and almost the length of the piers but almost 2.5" thick.

“The only problem with using wood shims arises when the shims are too small to support the weight/load of the main beams. If the shims are cut from the edges of nominal 2x4s, they are only 1-1/2 inches wide.
