Shimming Posts on Main Support Beam

This is a new build that is still under construction. It appears that the two posts supporting the main ceiling beam for the 20 ft great room were too short and the contractor added a shim. The roof is a 1/12 steal roof and the house is located in Ontario. You can bet on the roof carrying significant weight in the winter (see pics). Thoughts on whether this is ok or should the posts be redone without the shim? Is there a code that can be referenced?.

Honestly, I need more views from multiple different angles to even get the information needed to get a “maybe” legit opinion!

With what I can see, the post doesn’t appear any different than a wall point load with a top plate.

Afternoon, Graham.
Welcome to the InterNACHI form.

Those are not shims in the proper context of the word Shim.

In construction, a shim is a thin, often tapered, or wedge-shaped piece of material used to fill gaps, adjust positions, or level surfaces during the assembly or installation of building components, atop the buildup columns below the ceiling buildup beam in this case.

It is a block of dimensional wood, I suspect the same wood species, or similar in strength and workability, used in the buildup columns.

Insure everything is fastened to one another.

The truss hanger configuration on the right side doesn’t look right to me. Have any other pictures?

Robert thanks for the clarification. Is there a term used to describe a block of dimension wood that fills a gap between the post and beam?

I can only assume that the “wedge/spacer” will have the strength and workability required but I will be a tad angry if I see over the years this block of dimensional wood get compressed.

Any need to install a couple steal plates on either side connection the beam with the post?

A few more angles with a shot of the jack post support as well.

I consider many people here to be my mentors(teacher???). I’m always learning, and for that, I am grateful.
