Ran across this sink drain and trap yesterday for the first time. Has anyone seen these installed before and know how they work?
Look up bottle trap. Lots of them out there (some locales don’t allow them).

Like Dominic said it’s a bottle trap I call them out every time I see them. It does not have a smooth interior and is not a P-trap.
