Hey ya’ll, I’m new to home inspection. I just got my license. Im setting up alot of things concerning the business. Im an Internachi member. I’ve researched and seems ASHI is the Standard of Practice i need to legally use in South Carolina? I’d prefer Internachi. Does anyone know, the official deal here? Do i legally have to put the ASHI SOP in my pre inspection contract and use it,or can I use Internachi SOP? If so, and or does anyone know how i can read and download an official law or document that states the sop required to be used in sc?
Thanks a bunch
You can only inspect to one standard and that would be the one that your state has adopted. Yes, SC adopted the current version of the ASHI SoP in their statute so that is what you need to use and abide to. You could list it as the South Carolina Standard of Practice in your agreement and that should be all that is needed.
I really appreciate you. I will list ASHI Standards of Practice in my pre inspection.
I see in the ASHI sop that it doesn’t say im not required to walk the roof. In the internachi sop,it says im not required. Do you know if by using ASHI i would be required. I have a drone and i believe as a last resort a pair of binoculars.
Last question. I promise
No, you are not required to walk a roof. We no longer walk roofs in my company, we use other methods and not any limitations that we might run across.
Hi, @jpowell42. Be sure to visit your state page of inspector info, such as chapters, mentors, inspector network, business and marketing services, etc. at How to Become a Home Inspector in South Carolina - InterNACHI®.
Wow the man himself. Thank you. I am a member of internachi and am working on my cpi.Ive also signed up with spector and am getting that all organized. The sop thing has been weighing heavy on me,because i want to use the correct one for my state. I think I’ve got the answer. Unfortunately when calling or dealing with my state about such questions i kinda get the run around and it doesn’t seem like the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. However, thanks to this forum,i am more assured of the direction i need to go.God bless you sir and hope to meet you in Florida at the convention.
Ah, don’t worry about it. @spatterson5 is correct. Unfortunately the state uses ASHI’s Standards of Practice But it’s pretty close to InterNACHI’s. So our training courses will definitely help you do great inspections using the state-approved standards of practice.
