Sprinkler back flow?

Does this look like a backflow preventer?
It looks like a drain cap, but I’ve never seen a plastic one, and it doesn’t look like there are any openings underneath. I supposed it drains from the bottom, but I just realized that, :man_facepalming:, so I didn’t try to open that valve…
(Which should be open if that’s the case)

Sediment trap.

it certainly doesn’t look like mine…

Not really, and it isn’t compliant with our requirements for an approved one either.

Looks like a filter housing.

That doesn’t look right to me.

This is usually what I see in my area.

I found this over-engineered sprinker system the other day.

Hey Daniel,

It is likely a spin down filter. Mostly common on well systems. It is designed to catch the larger particles, 50-200 microns range usually. Did the home have a well system?

There are several types or designs on backflow preventers for domestic and fire. Usually a visual indicator for me is the valve assembly and test cocks.

Watts mfg has a pretty big market share in the south.

No, city water. And this was definitely the sprinkler line.
I turned off the valve when testing the sprinklers to make sure

Yeah, I usually see these. With the bell cap on top for the back-pressure to release out

I’m with Ray. It’s likely a filter, similar to these…

Thanks! So I will call out lack of back flow

There used to be a “solved” button. I don’t see it now

@ruecker has it.

I love how HD lists things. Technically what you pictured in the HD image is a vacuum breaker.

I’ve seen the similar filter systems as others have mentioned on commercial properties and systems with a well, but not on a municipal supplied residential system. That’s interesting…
