Do any states with home inspector certification requirements accept membership in NACHI as a qualification for certification? Right now in Virginia it looks like they only recognize ASHI, NAHI and www.homeinspectionexam.org for testing. All of which require a trip out of state to take the test. I’m going to attend the chapter meeting in Newport News where they are having a speaker address this issue, but I am trying to get a company together and would like to have “STATE CERTIFIED” included in my marketing material.

Hang on to your hat, Dan. A major announcement from Education, Steering, and NACHI’s President will fe forthcoming within the next few weeks related to this very subject. I think the membership will be pleased, as fighting the NHIE is like swimming upstream in the rapids. We’re gonna kick it up a notch for our members!

Danny,
You can take the NHIE at three locations in Virgina. You don't have to go out of state to take it.
To answer your question about the NACHI test. No it is not accepted by any state. Only EBPHI and PSI have an exam that is used by states who require an exam and are using a third party for the testing provider.

Scott, I had no idea about those locations until I checked their website. The testing in Va. has to be new, although it’s been a while since I checked. I’m in the Richmond area and the one in Midlothian will work fine!
