Student Question: Test the Heater in the Summer?

I have searched this forum pretty thoroughly and the advice seems to be mixed so i thought I would start a new question.

Gas Heating systems and Heat Pump Systems; do you test them in the hot months (which here in Orlando is 10/12 months) and if so what process to you use. If not, how do you prefer to write it up on report?

I test it, then quickly test the ac. I did have one recently that I couldn’t test. No A/C, it was 93f in the home, the thermostat only went up to 89f,so it wouldn’t kick on. I wrote it as not tested and explained why.
