Sub par Roofing installation

Looking for opinions on this. In the picture it looks like they didn’t properly stagger the shingles from one row to the next. And those exposed black rectangles - should they be visible? The shingles might be sealed but I just find that black spot so ugly. I can’t find any articles online talking about this issue. What are your thoughts?

It sure looks like they did not cut proper offsets on the shingles.

As far as the dark line on the shingles. They look like an OC Oakridge that is designed that way.

I thought that might be the design of it. Is it just me that it looks horrible?

Did you measure the shingle edge stagger spacing at subsequent courses? It should be somewhere around 6 inches minimum, a little more if these are metric shingles. They probably should not be installed in a “racked pattern”, unless allowed per manufacturer installation instructions. Look up the manufacturer installation instructions.

It looks like they might be installed in a racked pattern. I can’t tell for sure from your photo.
