Sway brace for garage walls

I just had a 2 1/2 car garage w/ a HIP roof built and upon inspection noticed that the notched sway braces were not installed on the walls.

The contractor is now telling me that this isn?t needed. I dont agree with this at all and I think someone is trying to pull a fast one.

My questions is this…can it still be repaired, if so what would be the proper solution?

If not, then what type of monetary value would one put to this?

Thanks!

Is there plywood in the corners of your garage? If there is, than the plywood is your shear panels ( doing the same as braces), no braces needed.

No money due, the contractor should be charging you more if plywood is used instead of the metal corner braces.

If there is nothing but studs, then how did it pass the Building Inspector for your permit. Ask the Building Inspector with this question, if you had taken out a permit for this garage.

Stucco will also provide some lateral resistance. Even siding will do the same. Drywall on the inside can also provide lateral resistance.

If some for of lateral resistance needs to be added, it can.
