Synthetic thatch roofing

Wonder how they keep all that thatch from rotting out over a span of almost 50 years.
Does it need replacement and repairs?

The contractor that inform me about that roof when I initially inspected it. Was doing a big job at Disney World in Orlando.
I’ve always wondered where the material came from.

It’s stucco.

Explain, the roof is stucco?

I know on the islands they are natural but I think these local ones are a synthetic thatch roof, if that’s what you mean.

It’s the standard California 3 coat cementitious stucco system typically used on sidewalls. Basically.

Roy, my South African roof inspection course (included on InterNACHI’s list of courses) includes an extensive section on inspecting thatch roofs. Only one in the world…
