I am aware of the IRC requirements for tempered windows 24" from the hinge side of a door. Suppose you have a window that is 25 1/2" from a door and the door is a 30" door. I have been given 2 different interpretations for this situation. Please give me some advice. Thanks

Chris, while I don’t have my IRC book with me, I believe you will find that it states that the glass is to be tempered if it is within 24" of the swing of the door. Whatever the size of the door, add 24" to the swing and if the window is in that arch, it has to be tempered.

safety glazing , is not a required inspection as per NACHI or ASHI sop’s
Any of the individual states require it?
If you have ever inspected for this, you should always continue to do so for every client and every location to protect yourself from future liability.

Hi Bruce,
Has nothing to do with any SOP’s. I believe it is a code requirement everywhere. SOP/codes shouldn’t matter in our decision to write it up, it’s a big safety hazard.
