I recently came across a tile I had never seen before. As soon as we pulled up and the roof tiles came to view, “well that’s a different tile” rolled out. Turns out it was a ceramic tile made in South America.
Here’s the NOA https://terracotagresusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/20043004.pdf
It was a stylish tile with a slick glazed finish installed straight bond (by design, not typical for a raised profile tile). They claim the ceramic tiles provide an element of thermal insulation. Which seemed very plausible given the attic temperature conditions.
The unique design allows for an atypical installation. When correctly interlocked the tiles are straight bond and have less than a 3" headlap. Unfortunately this installation lacked the proper fastening required to meet the uplift resistance criteria for this area.
The tiles were fastened with #8 screws, they only installed one screw per tile (with no adhesive). One #8 screw does not meet the uplift resistance criteria for this area.
