Wow back when I took the NHIE they gave you four hours to complete the exam. I completed it in under two. I don’t know what exam they are giving now that only take 25 minutes.
I went through the AHIT course. Lots of money for that course and the prep was crap. I would have been screwed if I had not been a contractor back then. Nothing in the AHIT prep was on the test or most of it was left out.
I joined InterNACHI because I found a lot of useful information in the forums. I kept asking NAHI why we did not have something similar. It was not long after Nick offered me a trial membership. The NACHI courses are more detailed and very thorough for the most part. Some of the courses are a bit out of date but overall, you cannot do better.
As, they made me take my watch off and leave my phone in a locker I am going by what the person said when I raised my hand and said “I’m done”. She is the one who said "but you have only been in here 25 minutes, could it have been 27 or 28, I didn’t really check. In 2017 I took the test in Washington st after going to the ASHI school, and the Washington test was not a lot different than the Florida test as far as how hard it was. I agree, the NACHI courses were more to the point of what was on the test. I don’t put much weight in the tests anyway. I’m a licensed Realtor as well, what was on that test and what goes on everyday as a Realtor are two different things. Same when I took my writtens for different pilot ratings, there is a big difference between what’s on the “test” and what goes on in the real world. Now, here in Florida I have learned something, when you move here you MUST do 2 things within your first 6 months, #1 is Buy a boat you’re not going to use very much, #2 is become a Realtor or a Home inspector. You can roll a bowling ball down the street and hit 6 Realtors and 5 home inspectors and they are staring at a used boat for sale! LOL
Have a great day!

The NHIE allows the taker 4 hours, it is 200 questions. The 25 min exam is the INACHI exam, it is 100 questions and is also allowed for licensing in FL.
Scott, I don’t count the NHIE as an exam that tests competency. Yes, it is a hard exam to pass, but not because it is testing competency. It’s hard because it is goofy. And even the EBPHI knows it. It’s why they refused multiple court orders to allow anyone to see it: InterNACHI® Defeats Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (NHIE) in Court, Again
If you go to the interNACHI site, bring up classes to get licensed in Florida and take them along with the Final practice exam and WDO. That’s all I studied, I got to where I was getting upper 90’s on everyone every time. When I sat for the test there was 120 questions, I read the question, knew the answer and checked the box. Ended up getting a 95 overall. But I am a bit confused, why must it be that the test was so easy? Why couldn’t it be I studied my butt off an did a great job? Why couldn’t it be that I was very well prepared and did not need to sit and ponder the answers? Any adult with any type of reading skill can read a question in just 8 or 10 seconds? Im just a bit taken back by the amount of “It must be because the test was easy”. Very interesting. Again, I was just complementing interNACHI for putting out a product that actually prepared me for the exam. But to make everyone feel good, I have a friend who took the interNACHI course and flunked the State test the first time because it was so hard. Which is precisely why I studied to where I knew this stuff backwards and forwards. But just so we can all move on, Yes, the test was terribly easy, InterNACHI should be ashamed of how easy it was, Nick Gromicko your a bad man for putting out a product that prepared me so well! How dare you…LOL sorry, felt the need to be a wise alek!
Everyone, have a great and productive day!
Hey, we do that in MN too! We have a saying here…
Your two happiest days in life are the day you buy your boat, and the day you sell your boat.
When I use to truck up in Mn that is one of the first things I noticed, it seemed like every driveway you went by had a 16 foot Lund boat parked there!
Hey Stephen,
I just wanted to let you know I passed!
Your advice was solid.
I took the exam many times until my score was solid in the high 90s.
I did that at least twice a day for almost a month.
I also took the WDO course.
I went to my proctor, started the exam, and finished in 30 minutes. I never double-guessed myself since I KNEW the material. I read the question, found the answer, and moved on to the next. I wouldn’t say the exam is easy if you don’t know the material, but if you learned it there is nothing to worry about.
Read the question, find the answer, and move on to the next.
However, I wouldn’t have passed the exam without the 120-hour course from InterNACHI. It prepared me for the exam, but most importantly, it TAUGHT me the material.
It was not about memorizing, it was about learning the concepts. I’m delighted with InterNACHI.
Thanks, InterNACHI!
Now let the fun begin.
Awsome! Congrats!
