Is there a Level 1 Thermography Certification Course here or do we have to go somewhere else to get that. If it isn’t here can some one recommend an affordable course? Thank You!
Evening, Ralph. Welcome to the InterNACHI community message board.
To answer your question as best as I can, InterNACHI has a free Infrared Certified® Thermography Inspection Course. Free brother.
When I took the course I paid. That’s going back well over a decade. Now most everything is free.
Now I heard the course was modified to be more inline with Level !
If you wish to take a paid course, instead of doing the free course to get your feet wet, Snell Group Level 1 - Thermographic Applications $2,195.00.
Infraspection Institute. I think there is a discount for InterNACHI members. Lots of courses to offer. Ask about IR Inspections for Home & Building Inspectors, Open Enrollment. You will be learning from the best like Master Thermographer, Jim Seffrin.
Jim has been an Infraspection Institute Certified Infrared Thermographer® since 1984. Jim is a Co-founder of Jersey Infrared Consultants and a practicing thermographer with over 40 years’ experience as an infrared consultant. A Level III Infraspection Institute Certified Infrared Thermographer® and Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP), Jim has written numerous articles, co-written existing standards, and frequently works as an expert witness on projects involving thermography. Jim has been teaching for Infraspection since 1995 and was appointed Director of Infraspection Institute in April 2000. Jim is also an Infraspection Institute Master Thermographer®.
Jim use to be on the InterNACHI staff. 2017 PRESS RELEASE: Infraspection Institute’s Jim Seffrin Joins InterNACHI®
I am going to recommend doing the InterNACHI Infrared Certified course. You have nothing to loss and everything to gain. Later on, Infraspection Institute.
Some great thermographers here.
Keep us posted.
Why do you want to become certified? Is it for home inspections or is it for energy audits. @ryoung7 recommendation to start with the NACHI course is good for HI. Energy audit, you should consider Snell Group or maybe Infraspection Institute. That said, even though my course was home issues oriented, I was somewhat disappointed with my Level 1 training with the Snell Group relative to practices and procedures applicable to building issues. The rest of the course was excellent.
Monroe Infrared (vendor of cameras and training) offers a class geared to our industry, without the Level I, II, III lineage. It’s a good primer on what you need to know.
I want to inspect solar panels with my drone
You may even need to go with Level 2 training given the systems you hope to evaluate with non-contact methods!
I recommend level 1 training, so you understand the basics of infrared thermography. Your endeavor is more technical than simple home inspection thermography. IR thermography is much more than just point and shoot. You obtain valuable knowledge and experience in a level 1 course along with a chance to use the equipment. Then you are going to have to obtain training oriented to PV systems, both how they are designed (maybe you are already an expert) plus interpretation of IR images relative to anomalies. You might be able to find a level 1 course that includes PV systems. Most electrical IR training is oriented to industrial and electric motor applications.
Sounds like interesting work. I assume you have leads to make this into a profitable endeavor.
You won’t get in the door without Lvl II.
To run your business, you need Lvl !!!.
This is what I have been doing for 8 yrs. Call me. I’ll
Infraspection has an apparent newer course/certification for IR drones
They also have a standard of practice for photovoltaic systems
And Jim Sefferin is willing to answer any questions, very knowledgeable, and just a super person all around.
