Yea. The darn BS detector kicks in a lot.
lol:lol:
Branding works in some markets. When people think of a high end luxury car, Mercedes, BMW or Cadillac usually comes to mind but not Lexus, Infinity, Saab, Accura, Volvo although any of the last group are in the high end range!! From what most people are saying on these boards (maybe except for Chicago area), ASHI is the brand with INACHI having little to no recognition in many markets!!
I agree with Russel completely. He continually astounds me with his obvious intelligence !!
Other than supplying me with the contract, a lot of marketing ideas ( although most of them came from Russel ) and an entertaining message board, INACH has done nothing for me. Certainly up here in Canada when we needed some leadership we received none.
I am at the point of thinking; “What else can I do with my $289?”
Snow tires come to mind, oddly enough.
Been searching for a HI org where you can just fill out a ck and become a "certified member".
Haven’t found it yet. I did find an org that listed venders as members.
Do you happen to have a link??
Yeah , go to ASHI .org
Nope not that one. Checked it out. For an inspector to be considered “certified” and marketed to the public as "certified’ with that org, the inspector must provide proof of completing 250 inspections, have their reports verified that they met the orgs SOP, provide proof that he passed a proctored exam and more.
Who certifies that the inspection was done correctly?
I also seem to recall ridealongs count.
You can do 500 inspections the wrong way, miss a ton of issues and you are officialy ASHI certified.
OH BOY!
From the speed of your response you were fishing.
What no work today?
I am on the way out ,so will let you guys have fun.Got delayed due to bad road conditions.
Some ride alongs count if the inspector completes an inspecton and report that meets the SOP.
Yep 2 today. Just 2 hrs behind you.
A little overcast here, Excellent road conditions here today.
I think the important thing is that NACHI gives tons of free stuff to it’s members…PERIOD!
What do the other associations give?..If you can even connect with anyone
in person, or by an email that gets answered within 2 or 3 weeks…
NACHI’S message board, when it’s not being abused by the badmouthers
( new word? ) has been an excellent source of learning, from inspectors everywhere.
I’ve done a wack of inspections, over the years, but I still run into situations, on
occasion, that I can use some help on. I have to say I’ve learned, and continue to learn, every day from you guys, by reading and taking an active part on this message board. Can it be better? Sure! Is it great the way it is? Absolutely! I think we need to better appreciate the good things we have, in NACHI, and all around us.
This business of handing in 100, 200, or 250 reports to prove you’ve done their required minimum, is ridiculous! I could easily sit down and falsify 250 reports, and hand them in. Voila! I’m a certified inspector!
I am an educator. I train home inspectors. One of the requirements for graduation at Sharondale is to complete an actual home inspection, and
hand in a written report on your findings. The inspection is usually done on my own home, and I am always present, along with my wife ,
( also a qualified home inspector ) to keep an eye on how things, such as the electrical panel, are being approached, and handled. Safety is extremely important!
I feel I have the right to assess these reports, and mark them accordingly, because I was there when they did the inspection. I also know the property, well, and can tell if they missed something important, or made a wrong call, entirely. I’ve had students ask if they can do an inspection on a home of their own choosing, and have me mark it, for their final exam.
I have to say “no”, because I have no idea whether they did things according to S.O.P., whether they caught everything or whether they missed any major deficiencies.
I say all this to say, how can anyone or any group receive a pile of 250 reports, and deem this would-be inspector to be certified, based solely on a requisite number of completed reports? Are these reports ever even looked at? …not that it matters, cause all they will tell you is how good their handwriting is. :D:D:D:D:D
Yea I’m totaly baffled how 1 man can certify an inspector , then market that person, for $289.00 the the public as a certifed HI] by simply having someone say, yep it was me that took an online exam, then make that person promise he will do all the other non verified things.:roll::roll:
InterNACHI: www.nachi.org/membership.htm
ASHI’s 35 second, online, got a valid credit card? Shazam! http://www.homeinspector.org/join/application/default.aspx
ASHI’s full membership is even worse than its entrance requirements. ASHI uses the same “everyone passes” exam that states use to license brand new students. And then requiring their newbies to go out and perform a certain number of unqualified inspections (right or wrong) for poor, unsuspecting consumers, as the only way to achieve fool membership… is unconscionable. No wonder I keep getting real estate alerts about their diploma mill.
Dan, face facts. You live in a licensed state that has ZERO continuing education requirements and you belong to an association that has ZERO entrance requirements.
Nick:
The more you try to spin things, the more you convince yourself of what you’re saying. You run the biggest diploma mill going…period!!!
Who are you getting real estate alerts from?
The good thing I see with this, is you, and your wantta be CE providers cannot scam AZ inspectors , and your certificiations are worthless:mrgreen::mrgreen:
ZERO membership requirements :roll::roll:
Isn’t that like ICC, where anyone can be a** member** by simply paying $s.
Then after a member proves that he knows his trade by passing proctored exams he or she can qualify as an ICC certified inspector.
My association has 6-7000 members, if your worried about protecting the public, maybe you should go after the ICC that has 10s of thousands members.
Is it closer to 6 ?
Can you prove what you claim?
As reported in the ASHI Reporter, this month:
ASHI Certified Inspectors: 3708
ASHI Assoc w/ Logo Use: 162
ASHI Assoc Members: 1,872
ASHI Retired Members: 161
Affilliates: 94
Total Membership: 5, 997
As far as “proof”, it is what is reported by ASHI just as NACHI reports its membership.
The “by name” lists that appear on NACHI’s Inspectorseek.com contains many “out of service” phone numbers, in case you haven’t noticed. One New York inspector recently told me that the client who booked him last week commented as to how his was the only active phone number on the entire page of over 20 inspectors listed.
As far as NACHI’s actual membership, I invite you to watch how few will decide the member of the year, this year. Compare it to the vote of 5 years ago (check the archives).
Just recieved , and read in the ASHI Reporter after posting.
The correct # is 5997
Thank you James.
I have learned to distrust dharris.
I am also quite sure that many of those members in ASHI are also no longer in business.
LOL I was only off by 3, considering I take lessons from nickey, gotta give me credit, compaired to #s posted by ole nicko:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:
In your dreams:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen: Busshy can confirm there are 104 more since the Oct Reporter.
