Underground cable

Hello.

As I understand it, UF cable is for direct burial. What about wiring in plastic conduit that is buried? Does this need to be UF also?

Is regular Romex (or whatever #6 would be called) cable be OK? If not what is proper?

Thanks,

Romex is not okay for direct burial.

ENT (Smurf tubing), LFMC and FMC are not okay for direct burial.

EMT (if coated and approved), RMC (if coated), UF and RNC (PVC) okay for direct burial with specific depth requirements.

There are service cables sold with 3 #6’s and ground that are rated for underground wiring.

You can pull romex in pvc, but it is much easier to pull thhn.

You can’t use Romex in any “wet location”, raceway or not.

Underground is a wet location.

Go with THWN. Usually "THHN" is dual rated THHN/THWN but be sure it is labelled that way.
