Using a PC to make free phone calls?

Is there a program that will permit use of the PC to make calls using a headset and microphone?

Thanks Richard:

Both users must have that software as I read it and then PC to PC is free? What is needed the email address or the URL?

Could I load the software on my desktop, and call home using my laptop when away to speak to family and friends?

I remember years ago when I bought a PC Phone and was able to call Online regular numbers, but it was very poor.

Long distance savings -- worthwhile?

I like it

I call my PC from my laptop in the other room just to have fun with my wife.

To call someone you use their user name that they select. Their is a server that maintains names and any data that a user might want to post.

Another company has a software answering machine for Skype. My son said that there is interfaces into your phone system etc.

It is a lot of fun

You can do it right through YAHOO as long as both parties have YAHOO. And YAHOO is free.

Joe,

there is also a company called vonage that you use your fax modum to make long distance calls using your regular phone and can call to any land line. no long distance calls my insurance agent has this system. He makes aprox. 30 long distance calls a day and was very expencive. now he pays 29.95 permonth for unlimited calls any where in the world.

Ted & Joe,

Vonage is awesome. I used to have it and would still except now I live out in the boonies and you need a DSL for it to work properly. I used it in my previous home and business and it saved a ton of money. An added benefit is that you can forward calls, do hunt down (the system will call different numbers until someone answers, like if a call comes in on your business line, it will call your cell, then your home so you don't miss a client) and integrate voice mail boxes, etc. You can do all kinds of fun stuff.
