I’m hoping to find some guidance and making sure that this is an approved practice before doing. I’m a Home Inspector working with a private Provider Building inspector who I perform home inspections and work provisionally under his license doing code inspections. Here in Florida the laws changed last year where contractors, builders and even employees can now send pictures or virtually call the code inspectors of these building departments and private provider building inspectors to perform and approve code related inspections. My question is as a home inspectors can we do these inspections virtually or remotely as in we’re on a video call with a roofer or contractor as they take all the required photos of the property and we put together the report? Currently I do Wind Mit reports here in NW Florida for a roofing contractor but he also has a roofing division in central Florida - he also wants us to compile wind mit reports for. Ideally I’d be on a virtual call with him, still hypothetically performing the inspection and I will compile the report after he or she sends me the photos of everything required in the wind mit report. I’ve looked through statues and InterNACHI’s SOP and I don’t see anything opposing this practice unless I’ve over looked it. Not sure if anyone has ever practiced this before but I just want make sure this is an acceptable practice before following through with this.
