looks like they did it the hard way. wouldn’t it have been easier to just extend the hight of the t.p.r. valve with an extiension of about 2 or 3 inches (or what ever it needs) under it rather than all that soldering?? icon_cool.gif

An improperly installed TPR valve is no better that an improperly installed discharge pipe.

oh. i see t.p.r. valves on comercial boiler that are mounted right on the manifold and on an extension. is this also wrong? icon_cool.gif

As long as the temperature sensing part of the TPR reaches into the boiler probably not. For residential water heaters if you just add an extension the temp probe will not be long enough.

Jeff, Brian. thanx guys, i never realy related the difference, the manifold is only about 3.5'' deep and a water heater jacket is about the same thickness as the extension on the manifolds i see, so it stands to reason the they may have needed to extend it on the manifold to accomidate for the probe. thanx again.
