I inspected a condo yesterday and found the 40 Gallon Electric Water Heater in the bedroom closet of a one story slab foundation unit. It had a plastic pan and was installed in the corner of the 2.5 Ft x 5 Ft closet. Does this sound acceptable? Is there anything I should particularly be looking for in this application?

If you are wondering about if it is ok to be in a closet? I see this a lot. As long as it is not gas, all other requirements are there and it is installed to Manufacturer's Specifications. Such as pan, pan drain to exterior, tpr, etc.

How old was the condo?

Electric is fine in the closet, under sinks, may other places.

Paul,

Not a problem for an electric water heater in a closet...however, make sure you check under that area for signs of past leaks and possibly the NEW addition of that pan.....always look for signs below just in case.

Also verify the usual....Relief Valve, 3/4 Piping from the valve and no threads on the end of it...and down roughly 6-12 inches from the floor...we will be general on that...no specific code specs for ya...![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif)
