Anyone familiar with failure to watts radiant per (orange). The pipe has all of its “paint” peeling off. This is a main supply line towards an in concrete tubing.
What is that PEX laying on top of?
Boiler- yeah probably caused by excessive heat. I feel like I have seen others lines in the past touching a boiler without this damage.
Guess I am asking if there are any known issues/ recalls with this pex line? Does this cause issues in the long run? I am assuming it will cause an issue.
None that I could find with a quick internet check. I’d point to the boiler! Replace damage section(s) with adequate clearance from boiler.
You should double check to ensure this is the same product:
There are also some max water temp guidelines in this document which may apply, but I doubt there was a way to check the water temps.
Good find Brian. Yes I do believe it is the same product. It is going to get written up. Will it be replaced? I doubt it, this inspection is an after sale inspection and I am uncovering a lot more issues higher on the danger list.
I wonder if the lack of the orange coating will cause future damage? It appears to be just a painted surface, but I am sure it serves some purpose beyond looking pretty.
Who knows, but the manufacturer has specific clearance issues. It is obviously degrading the material, to what degree? Who knows?
The orange coating is an oxygen barrier. Without it oxygen can penetrate the tubing leading to the rusting out of ferrous material within the system.
That’s what I was wondering. I for some reason thought that the oxygen barrier occurred inside the pipe, but had a feeling that any damage to the exterior coating was detrimental. Thanks Michael.
