Good guesses, but I’m not sure that it’s any of those. It’s just on one end of the house. It’s like just in certain areas. only thick enough to cover the pink insulation.

Original metal roof. R-Panel on 1x4s. No decking. I’ve been a carpenter since 1972, so, uh, not sawdust. That was my first guess. It felt like blown in insulation. But it is only thick enough to cover the pink. Plus, it’s not in the entire attic.

It would appear to be some of the cellulose stuff made by Mr Stein in San Antonio. He made this type of insulation from about 1975 to the late eighties. His daughter, Robin Harrison lives somewhere around in your area. If you know her or of her, she’s pretty sharp for an ol’ gal and will most likely talk yer ear off about her daddy. She was also involved at the plant in SA and can talk “turkey” with the best of 'em.
