Please explain what apron flashing is, what does it look like? What materials are used to install it. Any pitfalls to avoid potential leaks? When inspecting this type of flashing what should inspector be on lookout for? Thank you for your kind input.

My gosh!!! Thomas, you are sooooo rude and impolite! In fact, how dare you! The person merely asked a question and you, like, jumped him with all your might! Do you realize the truma he will have to deal with, now! [s/c]

Three tab is by far the best, I use it on the lowest faces of all my chimneys. :+1:

Yep I checked good and it not say apron, so that’s why I posted the question

Yes I typed the question in google, however it did not specifically say apron. This is why I posted for clarification

I knew he’d be a bad influence on you! He is alright, just a bit jagged around the edges

Yea Thomas was rude :flushed: but at least he answered so I forgive him

Not trying to be rude David, but the image I posted shows the answer to your question. It came up on Google in less than a second. Only a suggestion to help you with your studies and learning. We’re here to help, but shouldn’t be here to answer questions that are easily found by a little research.

You (and every other new/seasoned inspector) needs to develop research skills that extend beyond simply asking someone else for the answer.

1: Apron Flashing at the bottom of the chimney.
2: Step Flashing on both sides of the chimney. *Note; In my neck of the woods Counter Flashing covers steps flashing, Step Flashing only fastened to the roof sheathing, to provide an more directed seal being imbedded in brick/mortar pocket, and aesthetic appearance.
3: Head/Head Wall Flashing at the top of the chimney.
4: Chimneys over 30" inches wide or wider, require Cricket Flashing. Head/Head Wall flashing is stepped.
