Is that an awning?

Don’t think it is TPO, this roof felt like fabric made, more like canvas cloth…

Not awning, it is main roof of the house.

See my first picture with my hand on it, if you zoom in, you will see that it is definitely not like plastic membrane kind…

Looks like a woven material. Might be engineered.
What did the sellers decloration state?

Roof overing:
Unkonwn roof covering material.
Refer to the vender for further informtion.

TPO roof covering - Google Search

For TPO roofing, I inspected a lot, they are all made of smooth plastic kind sheets, thinner than PVC kind, and the overlap edges of each roll is glued together. But this one in question, totally different material, like Robert mentioned above, more like Woven material, canvas kind…

Roof was installed before current homeowner (the seller), no one has any idea… I guess I have to say unknown roofing covering material in my report… my first time to say so

Just another WAG.

Mayby they covered EDPM with a lighter colored material to reflect more light, to keep the surface cooler and help protect the edpm from UV. It’s a stretch, but I’ve never seen any canvas type coverings such as you described.

Right, me either, does felt like canvas type, that’s why I posted here to get some idea…

Were they prepping for a gravel / elastomer mix to go on top?

Looks kinda like Duro-Last Flat Roofing, but it doesn’t feel like thermal plastic ?

Nope, not plastic, felt like canvas

This is a first for me. It even looks like stitches at the seams, lol.

Boots/protrusions often have markings, did you check those?

Also, it looks loose like it needs ballast.

Where are located. Are you in a another country other than the USA?

Lol, looks like this became a very interesting question, not only me, this type of roof covering became everyone’s first. I rarely post any question the past few years, because nothing seems new to me except this time. I am going to post more pictures of this roofing material. As “Brian Cawhern” mentioned, the seams are indeed like stitched, but in a neat way, machine stitched when they install the roof. But I don’t think there should be any ballast, because the roof flashing way around the edges and penetration pipes were looked the same as PVC or TPO type, but this material is not any plastic membrane sort, it is hard canvas like… See the following additional pictures:
