Good one!
A prime candidate for www.nachinat.com
Check it out you may like it. Will solve all your problems.
Hi John,
That is intersting. Can you please explain a little bit about it? Did you start this and that sort of stuff?
Chris
Have one in Ottawa then. No one is stopping you. http://www.nachi.org/form.htm We’ll come to you.
NACHI will support your chapter wherever it may be, see: http://www.nachi.org/events.htm
All hell…I will be ANAL and make everyone happy…
Okay,… so if I do, do this, then will you attend?
But first let me ask you:
**was there a chapter in Ottawa before? **
**If so what happened to it? **
And do you think there is currently enough members/support to maintain a chapter?
If most are saying I am the only hope to getting this going then I will take a look at it.
Yes I did start it. I maintain the website, and am coordinating upcoming training to be presented on the web.
So far I have interest from many schools and facilities:
Jamie McDowell/Doug Caprio Pro-Lab
Barry Steingel - WDO/WDI
Rick Bates - Indoor Air Quality
Dan Bowers - All around training.
Joe Ferry - Business/Law/Insurance
Keith Swift - All around training.
Tom Raush and his programs
Michael Rowan - All around training.
Joe Tedesco - Electrical code awareness program.
Greg Bell & Joe Burkeson - ICC Bootcamp plus a suprise.
Each of these trainers have been afforded the opportunity to participate in upcoming programs and training seminars. All of them will be offered on-line and will involve a fee. Hopefully a lower fee because unlike scheduled classes an inspector will be able to complete the courses at their own pace and time constraints. These training sessions will hopefully be available soon at www.nhiti.org. I just got the domain name and bought the classroom software. it still needs to be loaded, tweaked, etc. This will be a win-win situation for Trainers as they will be receiving residual income without the expended time and Inspectors have the great freedom of choice. Many courses (short trainers, I’ll call them right now) will be free. Each Trainer listed above has agreed (or showed signs of agreement) to write some. What this does is introduce the Trainer to the Home Inspectors. Home Inspectors can get a peek preview of their style, etc.
In addition to the above we will also have Interactive Seminars. These will be presented at specific times and will be presented only once. Most of these training seminars will run about 2hours per session. In other words one class or training seminar may very well be 4 - 2 hour sessions.
Many, many new and exciting things will become available over time. I could list them but - not yet. It takes time and effort and I don’t want to announce anything until it is ready for presentation.
When it comes to the cost of the Training, NACHI National “On-Line” Chapter members will receive reduced cost. All other’s will be charged an additional fee. All training will be available to all inspectors regardless of affiliation.
Hey Chris you could always attend the OAHI Ottawa group, if you want the best possible “misinformation”.
The following make NACHI Toronto look good to me . Roy Cooke
While there you could look up Paul he is an instructor and an RHI He can help you he says he has great courses and only charges $3,750;00 and you will not have to ge to Toronto. http://www.home-inspectors.com/getstart.htm.
7 days just over $500:00 per day
FALL 2006
**October 14th to **
October 22nd, 2006
NOTE: This class may be the only one that we will be offering until the Spring
You might be expected to join OAHI and take all their $500:00 courses most taught in Toronto.
Some where good courses but I have feeling all the best teachers have moved on.
Also CMHC http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/en/inpr/index.cfm has some courses example and you need to go to London Ontario.
3-Day Residential IAQ Investigator Course:
- Advance only, upon acceptance into the course: $825 plus applicable taxes
Field Training:
*]$275 plus applicable taxes for each FT submission (4 submissions required)
Chris, I’ve attended NACHI Chapter meetings from Quebec to B.C. I love to go to Canada!
Roy
The bigger question is whether this person who teaches these courses is actually qualified to be teaching anyone anything!
Is this teacher qualified as an instructor. It looks to me it is just an home inspector teaching what he knows and charging exorbitant dollars in the process.
It was over three years ago that I met Nick at I think South of ERIE Pennsylvania.
We hit it off from the get go and I have met him at many meeting in both USA and Ontario.
My first NACHI meeting was 534 Klicks
and I have gone a lot further then that to NACHI meetings . Toronto from Ottawa is 452 Clicks
I have enjoyed ever one and not been ever been sorry.
Roy Cooke …RHI …CMI…CHI…CAHPI-ON
First time I met Roy. I’m on stage in Erie, PA and this old fella in the back keeps raising his hand and telling us all about his different marketing techniques. I finally made him come up on stage and I took his seat. Roy is a tough act to follow.
With help from believers like Roy… NACHI has come a long way.
Just as a point of reference. As a note regarding
I can personally say and vouch for “him” that he can teach and does a very good job of it.
I had the opportunity to attend a “facilitators” training course - “train the trainer” workshop several years ago with “him” along with a handful of other home inspectors that were interested in improving instructors/trainers. Everyone had to preapre a lesson and get up and instruct and facilitate a home inspection lesson. It was sponsored by CMHC and reviewed by a panel of peers. So he likely may even still have the certificate to indicate his qualifications as an instructor and facilitator.
Sorry Claude,
Personal vouching is not considered as a substitute for qualified teaching certificate, or other legally accepted teaching qualification. He is either qualified to teach or he is not.
CMHC is not a body which can grant teaching qualifications, let alone inspectors teaching other inspectors how to instruct. It doesn’t pass the muster. Nor does one course make one an expert in my opinion. OAHI scratching the back of people it “deems” worthy.
Raymond, -BS- My wife does not have a “qualified teaching certificate” and has sucessfully homeschooled our 4 children. An engineer, A doctorate candidate, a technician, and one in college.
I’ll make sure I tell her you think she is not qualified to teach.
BTW- have you ever taught anyone anything?
Michael
I don’t care about what your wife did with your children. Good for her. I would also state that home schooling is all day long, not a one week course. The fact remains your wife is not qualified to teach others. There is a big difference between your own children and teaching children of others.
Have I ever taught anyone anything? Yes, I have, but I don’t claim to be qualified as a teacher of anything! And if wanted to teach I would go to college and get my teachers certificate.
I guess also thats why other inspectors often ask me to take them out on inspection, but I always decline because I don’t want to teach others my bad habits, let alone my competitors.
Raymond,
I have learned much from those without any certificate that “qualifies” them to teach and I have also been taught poorly by those who hold a certificate.
I would imagine we have all had this experience.
Michael,
I won’t argue with that view above. I think we have all experienced such instances.
