Wind Mit Gable Inquiry

Client thinks they’re suppose to get the hip roof credit based on their own calculations. I’ve tried to tell them these are gables regardless of the roof construction although interesting and they still want to waste money having me come out there to confirm. They are acting as if these gables shouldn’t be included based on the construction but I’m 99% sure they’re wrong.

There are gable features in the photo you posted.

Yep, gables.

Ya I know they think because of how the outer wall is constructed and there are no eaves that hangover it shouldn’t be included. I’ve told them they will still be considered gables and are wasting money having me come out there. The carrier already told them this as well but the $800 difference in their policy is making them try anything they can.

That design is known as a parapet gable in architecture.

I would explain verbally that hip roofs get credit due to their aerodynamics. That gable feature is the opposite.

Owner has a valid claim. Those gable ends are protected with parapet extensions above the roof line. Some will treat this the same as a protruding firewall separating individual units in a multi-family building. I am not sure how the underwriter will view this though. Good luck either way.
