Wind Mit - Missing Permits

Hey everyone! Will be doing my first solo wind mitigation inspection on Friday. The inspection is in Orlando, specifically Edgewood. I’ve gone through the Orlando and Orange County sites trying to pull up permit information for the inspection form but both show there being no record of permit information. Though the jurisdiction is Edgewood, it seems the jurisdiction is handled by Orange County. I’ve contacted them by phone and have spoken to three people who are as baffled as I am about there being missing permit information. I’ve left a message to a supervisor asking for assistance and am awaiting their call hopefully later this evening.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Does anyone happen to have some advice on how to handle the situation?

Send me the address. I’ll look it up with my Buildfax subscription.
Sort of like Carfax for homes.
We’ll see what comes up.

You do the best you can, but permit searching (beyond the basic) isn’t your responsibility on a Wind Mit. Maybe there is no permit.
Sometimes it was mis-filled, not filled, not applied for, or lost, who knows.

Inform the homeowner they can try to locate the records or contact the building department and when they find it, you’ll take the necessary action.

Knock on wood, but every time I was unable to find the permit, the homeowner had it. You can also as a general rule figure out if it was post 2004 or so. If it’s a 3 tab, it’s pre 2004 because those weren’t FBC approved after some point in 2003/4 range when the codes got updated.

Also look at the amount of granules in the gutter if it’s got 'em. If you can pull out a full handful, the roof is nearing end of life and note it accordingly.

I thought he was performing a WindMit only.
Great advice on the granules.

True. I guess I almost always do 4pts and Wind Mits at the same time and the 4pt wants a life estimate.
