Wind Mitigation Roof Deck Attachment

OK, I was just wondering

Talking about nail types, what nails are equivalent to 8D nails when looking at plywood/osb decking? Any nail 2.5" or longer (sprial shank, ring shank, screw shank)? Are any nails shorter than 2.5" equivalent to 8D?

I had that problem one time. Insurance company called and said my customer would not get rda credit because I didn’t have a ruller in the photo showing nail spacing. I told them to check the form because there is no requirement for nail spacing with dimensional lumber. She did get the credit.

This is why I have a comment section on my photo page. If the home has dimensional lumber, I state that “The home has dimensional lumber roof decking with at least 2 nails per board.” I haven’t had a problem since.

On the nails I agree. It doesn’t matter what size the nail, it just has to be a nail.

just take pictures of dumb as s mt6 marks under the planks. problem solved no explanation necessary. I have had the question once as well. It happens when agents or whoever do not just submit as they should and try to play underwriter. Set them straight by email and problem solved.
