Rob Paterkiewicz, ASHI’s Executive Director helps out NACHI’s membership drive.
In a 2-page letter to ASHI's Members and Candidates with Logo Use Privileges, Rob Paterkiewicz explained why he nearly doubled ASHI membership dues from $300 to $550 a year.
Although the additional $250 wasn't reflected in the enclosed invoice...it is expected to hit by January. I guess he didn't want recipients to fall off their chairs by whacking them all at one time.
The excuse he used was "branding." But unlike NACHI which helps inspectors brand their own home inspection company name locally, ASHI wants its members to pay for branding its own ASHI logo.
While NACHI continues to add to the list of benefits it provides its members http://www.nachi.org/benefits.htm ASHI members continue to wise up. We like the wise ASHI members. 14 more wised up today when they got their letter/bill. Welcome guys. It is nice to have you at NACHI.

Thank you so much Rob. Very much appreciated.
And for you Nick... Keep up the good work.
Being a member of NACHI is the best move I've made since becoming an Inspector. There is just so much happening here at NACHI, that it makes it impossible for me to not get involved in one way or another.
I think NACHI is the best organization out there today. What makes this organization stand out from others is the fact that we are here to help each other and not charge $$$ for education and information to better ourselves.
The Message Board is where it's at. People from all over are asking questions and getting their answers without even joining. Where else can a homeowner go to get real answers to his/her questions by knowledgeable Home Inspectors throughout the United States.
I'm am so happy to see NACHI grow daily.
Stay tuned...There will be a chapter in your area soon.

ASHI’s new strategy is not a bad one. The “branding” thing is just an excuse to double dues, but doubling the dues is not a bad idea for ASHI.
I think NACHI can take some credit for showing that ASHI members are mostly independent thinkers. Something I initially miscalculated. I thought all ASHI members where all hard core ASHI members. It appears that most are not. I point to the influx form ASHI to NACHI as evidence.
ASHI execs. aren't stupid (although I'd like to think so). They see the writing on the wall. Many ASHI members are just naturally doing what's in the best interest of their business and joining NACHI. http://www.nachi.org/benefits.htm It's not personal to them. It's just a business decision. ASHI can't stop that.
The only way to keep ASHI funded is to bill those die-hards double. The die-hard ASHI member will probably pay triple. NACHI can't convert the die-hards no matter how poorly ASHI treats them. They are safe in the ASHI camp. They might as well tattoo their foreheads with the ASHI logo.
We'll continue to welcome the less emotionally attached ASHI members to NACHI. Welcome guys.

Nick,
They made big promises when they joined telling them all this help would be available. Years later they are still waiting for that help, especially in the marketing department. Maybe some of them are just now waking up to the fact they are making those at the top of the ASHI chain richer by using their education and training programs.
I believe our education and training programs are among the best and best of all they are free! I watched (I mean slept) through a few of those ASHI training programs which claimed to be the best, from the best. Now when I have a good case of insomnia, I just break out one of those ASHI programs and within minutes I am sleeping like a baby. At least I never said they were not good for anything, they are good for insomnia.

I guess I don’t really understand what you guys are grousing about. As a relatively new inspector, working to establish and grow my business (and currently occupying the “downstairs zone” of the ASHI outbuilding facility pictured elsewhere on our BB), why should I mind shelling-out a few MORE good dollars in exchange for “deferred” services. Hmmm…deferred services…sounds like deferred maintenance…

Ah yes, deferred services. I paid for some deferred services on August 10. Today is August 21. I've been calling daily to get those deferred services that I paid for. Perhaps today?

I have made a decision to leave NACHI. I just decided to rescind my decision to leave NACHI. I’m still here. I know some are unhappy that I’m still here. I can be bribed to leave. Margaritas are pretty good.

I’ve decided to hold an inspection expo. I’ll make all the $ on the expo. Everyone attending will get 2000 hours of continuing education credits from NACHI so you shouldn’t waste your time getting any real training someplace else. The expo will cost you $600 but you get a discount if your a dues-paying-member. I’ll keep your $350 membership dues. I’ll keep your $400 expo fee. And as an added bonus…if dues-paying members also pay me to come to my expo, I’ll tell you how I’m going to spend your additional $250 dues increase.
You ASHI guys understand.
Nick
PS We'll be branding attendees with an actual hot iron, so be prepared to pull down your pants.
