WTF Picture of the Day

Yikes. And those nail plates don’t just pull out like stickers?

I find a good bit of damage. This crane with straps seems to be pretty good. Some just use hooks, which can cause damage.

The way the crane straps are attached to the truss can also cause damage. I’ve seen a row of trusses where the big gusset plates at the truss peak are partially torn through from below. Doesn’t take a genius to figure out the trusses were lifted with a single strap at the peak

Brian nailed it! one of the damaged trusses I could see the scraping from coming off truck bed and the dirt from lying in the dirt.

Yeah, we used a spreader bar.

Although, I’ve got to admit, we flopped a few up for quick frame jobs over the weekend…small ranches, garages and such…for extra cash.

Count the defects…

Man this year’s wood is extra garbage. It’s like every predrywall I see studs that are eaten through by bugs or fungi. It’s also not just one or two like how it used to be the past few years, but 10-20% of the whole house. This is not even counting the twisted, bowed, or bad pieces with massive wanes.

I’ll start with the crappy photo, lol!

Sometimes the proper followup from a drone flight is… walk the damn roof and take good pictures…

This was the upstairs bathroom in a 2 story quadplex. Newly remodeled last year. (Same home as roof pics above)
Owner said they had a leak a few months ago, and the contractors came back to “fix the drain”

Thermal is ceiling below this tub.

This is not my picture, it’s one of those reddit things that shows up in my email every morning.

Supposedly done by a roofer, lol.

It looks like a bush/farm fix to me. I.e. absolutely wrong, looks terrible, won’t last forever but done with scrap and probably gets the job done. I grew up on a farm, all my friends were farmers, all my non friends were farmers. No one had money to pay to do something the right way, so you did what you could with what you had.

My particular critique would be; The tongue should be up and the caulk should be smeared over the end, including filling in that crack a bit.

It must be washer dryer week…

1 cabinet, overloaded mdf cabinet in a humid garage in Florida.

One would think you’d fix this before the inspector arrives, but I believe the homeowner crashed his motorcycle so the family doesn’t care.

different house…

1 defective washing machine. Valve doesn’t hold off water. Flooded itself. Note the ripples in the water. It was constantly dripping. The washer was tripping the GFCI breaker, so I couldn’t power it up to drain it.

I’ve seen those pull apart like that in interior laundry rooms too.
