Insurance companies do not recognize those synthetic materials that go over top of shingles as roof replacement. Even though I would agree they are effective in keeping the roof sealed in a windstorm and also from the rain, but again unfortunately insurance companies will not recognize those materials as roof replacement.
Every time we have a major storm that hits Florida they’re going to tighten the screws and that’s exactly what they’re doing right now! Raising the rates and raising the criteria to get accepted for insurance. I worked for an insurance company before with underwriting and I understand things from their perspective. Just like any business Insurance companies are in business to make money. If you’re not making money why would you be in business? It all boils down to their risk management. In addition there’s a lot of fraud and abuse. Adding a fraud and abuse to a state that’s already prone to hurricanes of course the rates are going to go up. If we could do away with the fraud and abuse on the insurance companies for roof replacements in the state of Florida I think that our premiums will be back down to normal ranges. The insurance companies took a bath in roof claims these past 2 years. And here’s something nobody thinks about the insurance companies are pretty much backed into a corner when it comes to settling claims. This is because going to court in a civil trial is suicide. What jury is going to side with the insurance company after they have been vilified and vilified many times as the bad guy by trail attorneys? No they’re not the bad guy it’s all the people that are filing frivolous claims, and doing so by bullying with legal action. A lot of people want to vilify and blame the insurance companies but nobody takes a moment to step out and think about all the people that are filing claims that they shouldn’t be filing. People need to take responsibility for their own house or they shouldn’t own a house. Insurance was supposed to be just in case not people’s roof replacement or home repair service.
