Additional items on HVAC circuit

Thank you. Makes sense to get 240V out to the HVAC unit with the white wire serving as a hot leg instead of a neutral. To check my understanding, if a neutral was desire/required to the HVAC disconnect (ignoring the rest of the mess going on for the moment), it would require a 4 wire pull, likely color coded black, red (both hot legs) white neutral and a green or bare ground?

No ground rod was observed around the trailer. Additionally the line going from the disconnect to the trailer terminated in a female 240V outlet that was on the ground with a 240V male end from the trailer. Total length of the two cables combined was likely beyond 100 feet.

That’s correct, the branch circuit to the AC disconnect would need the four conductors you’ve mentioned.

Rob’s answer is correct. I was asking about the rod thinking that they may have added a disconnect at the trailer and that they were using the 2005 NEC, allowing a three wire connection. Note: the set up is not allowed.
