Advice: If you are going to apply for CMI, do it soon.

Nick what absolutely amazes me you ask for input on something you have no intention of ever changing. So why waste peoples time? So you can say we had a discussion about it? Nothing is ever discussed. It is mentioned then you say its presently great and it stays they way you want it. Your just wasting time and peoples effort. Just do what you want its the way it ends up anyways.

Perhaps…but why stop at 5? Why not 6?

Also…can’t I work full time at Wal-Mart but have yellowing business cards on my desk for five years? How does your plan assure that was not a part timer doing 3 inspections a year for five years?

I know a contractor who inspects on the side who only does one or two inspections a year, tops, and started doing them in 1995. Could he not be a CMI under your plan?

Totally agree! Nick listens with his hands over his ears.

So far, several has said the five hundred hours of education needed is a good idea. Now if Nick will only listen.

Will not happen. Has it ever? For this to happen, Nick would have to admit something was not right. I have yet to see that. The way I see it he posts these “questions” just so a few of his worshipers just agree with him and he has the validation in a public forum and then can say…“well we discussed this in the past”. When you actually DISCUSS nothing because you come up with something and he just defends the current position and then keeps it the way it is.

HUGE waste of time and INTERNET space.

So are these related?

Contract signed](http://www.nachi.org/forum/f73/contract-signed-florida-realtors-magazine-run-full-page-certified-master-inspector-ad-56862/#post730807) with Florida REALTORs Magazine to run full-page CMI ad.

Anyway, although CMI doesn’t have annual dues, the entrance fee is being raised to $1,000.00 soon. FYI.

NACHI Members- Florida - 1,362

And just where is McKenna the Executive Director - Master Inspector Certification Board in all this?

He pops in with this response to my post:

Then, faster than I can respond to his comment, he goes back and edits to…

What the hells that about?

Seems to me he should be actively participating in this discussion, not just playing ‘hit & run’, or riding Nicks ‘coat-tails’ like he usually does!

And I want to become a CMI why, again???

Just to fly another useless logo on my website??? Much of my competition far exceeds the CMI ‘standard’. The title means nothing around here. My hard work and reputation and word-of-mouth is what gets me work in rural Minnesota.

The less CMI’s there are, the better for those who have it.
Please do not apply…

No less than I expected.

Did you want me to beg you to sign up, like we needed your approval?

What an a s s!

I just thought it would be appropriate that you, as the Executive Director of CMI/MICB, would participate in the discussion, and provide some meaningful dialog.

Guess you really don’t give a damn.

I think we may have just stumbled upon another reason others have no interest of joining your little fraternity.

Don’t worry. You won’t be receiving my application anytime soon.

The average inspector, these days, is performing under 200 inspections a year. 200 goes into 1,000 how many years?

Russell, why do you keep saying something won’t happen after it’s happened? It sounds weird.

CMI’s requirements were developed after years of discussions with membership. Over the years, the requirements have changed twice.

Perhaps you should research before you criticize. This isn’t the first time you’ve made the goofy claim that something will never happen… after it already happened… in this case, twice.

It’s kind of like saying that the U.S. will never elect a black president or that the Berlin wall will never fall.

Anyway, a professional designation has to be both meaningful, yet attainable. If it isn’t both, it is useless.

It’s true… the less people that become CMI, the better it is for those who already are. Less is more.

Approx 3.3% qualify to be CMI’s like it is. Some complain the standards are too high and they should be lowered.

But, don’t worry about it. It’s not your concern.

That settles it for me John.

Now I know it was never more than a gimmick.:frowning:

And CASH COW to boot

Nick - is it not just absolutely crazy to ask people stuff and make BETS and then you decide if the answer is right?

Case and point the $100 cash about move in certified question. Well I think people proved their point. But you decide who is right and wrong. How can you ever loose at that game? Man what an ego. Is it just a power trip to do stuff like that?

CMI may have changed twice. My point is it is not because PEOPLE want it changed, its because NICK wants it changed. Once again, I do not expect you to see this because in NICKS world it’s NICKS way.

Imagine, for a moment, a designation whose criteria was modified at the whim of others through message board posts. Could there ever be a better defiinition for “chaos”?

This program was originally introduced as a membership tier…a level that NACHI certified members could achieve in order to distinguish experienced members from those saving up money to buy their first flashlight. From there, it evolved into what you see today.

Making it different to “please” others would be a perpetual and eternal process. No one has yet to provide more than their personal opinion or desire to support their suggested modifications, yet they become angry that their personal opinions and desires do not override an existing and established program.

Even more amusing is their insistence upon being taken seriously.

It happens all the time Mr Full Time Home Inspector.:p:p

Jim what else is there but opinion? When someone asks for OPINION, thats what they get. How can I make a fact on something that does not exist?

When you ask for a suggestion on an existing program that you never intend to change what is the purpose of that? It happens on a daily basis. Questions are asked for input and nothing changes, what is in place is defended to the end. So what is the purpose of asking?
