I just thumbed through a few pages and saw where O'Handley's little site, TIJ, gets more traffic than ASHI. If you eliminate the members/candidates who are visiting the ASHI site for information, it does not leave nearly enough public hits to justify their branding expenses. Man, oh man.

NACHI’s hits are amazing but don’t forget the ASHI forum is not open to the public. But I agree that wouldn’t account for the huge difference in stats.

This is going to sound like a dig, but it really isn’t.

With ASHI's branding strategy of sending people to their web site for referrals, it seems to be working only for Real Estate agents. The public-at-large is either not getting the message or they are ignoring it. The disparity between these numbers is staggering.

Interesting chart. Might be simply because ASHI's membership is way down. Back when I was a member of ASHI we had well over 6,000 members... now, according to ASHI (not me) they have only 3,838. And that's including Candidates with Logo Use, Retired Members, Affiliate Members, etc.

ASHI Membership numbers as of June 29, 2005

Members: 3,402
Candidates with Logo Use: 178
Retired Members: 71
Affiliate Members: 85
Administrative Suspension*: 102
TOTAL ASHI MEMBERSHIP: 3,838

This is a critical year for them. Eh?

Hi Y'all, I hope everyone is doing great and having a great business year as I am.

Just to set the record straight, Nick accidentally left out the ASHI Candidate Membership category of 2119 Candidate members, so if you add this to the total number that Nick shows this gives you the true total in ASHI of 5957 members.

Just trying to keep the facts straight.

Scott,

While Nick will certainly speak for himself, it was my take on his post that he was supporting the ASHI standard boast that "candidates" are not "members".

We know you count them as revenue. ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif) Kind of sad that your organization would refuse to recommend more than one-third of those who YOU call a member to the public.

Wow! Check it out. After years of telling us ASHI's Candidates are not members, Scott Patterson now says they are and counts them all (even the blind Candidates) as ASHI "members" in a feeble attempt to beef up ASHI's pathetic numbers. ASHI's monthly report confirms Scott's assertion. Well, there goes the neighborhood.

Q. How can you be a Candidate for membership and a member at the same time?

A. ASHI math.

If Scott Patterson and ASHI are going to count "Come only with cash, no qualifications whatsoever, no exam or course taking, price cutting, desperate ASHI candidates" as members... I'm going to count as NACHI members the 35,000 who took our exam and failed. At least took an exam and know where they're weak. http://www.nachi.org/membership.htm

--ASHI continues to dump "Come only with cash, unqualified Candidates" into our markets... Disgusting.

--And ASHI continues to encourage them to perform inspections for poor unsuspecting consumers... Disgusting.

--And ASHI Candidates continue to cut prices in an attempt to get a certain number of unqualified home inspections under their belt so that they can proudly say they are fool members.

--And now ASHI goes as far as calling them members, long before they've proven or done a damn thing... Disgusting.

What a diploma mill!

Thanks for keeping the facts straight Scott.

http://www.nachi.org/membership.htm

P.S. If anyone says. "Yeah Nick, you're right about ASHI's Candidate application requiring nothing but cash, however their Full membership requires that ASHI verify 5 of 250 inspections (done by unqualified Candidates) to see if they comply with Standards of Practice" in a day and age where every commercially available printed inspection reporting form and every inspection reporting software complies with ASHI and NACHI Standards of Practice anyway... I swear... I'm going to laugh myself until I puke! ASHI diploma mill logo wearers shouldn't come here and play with the big boys.

Scott, go back to your price cutting, candidate dumping, market ruining, consumer hurting, marketing inept, do nothing, fuzzy math diploma mill you call a Society This message board is run by a real trade association... www.nachi.org/whats_new.htm

Good information to pass on to the 30-40 AZ ASHI state certified ASHI candidates that joined ASHI for the privilege of learning from their peers and getting continued ed that is recognized by all states that require CE and all other professional HI orgs. I'm Sure they will rush and join an org that bashes them.

What is M Napkows NACHI member # again?

Haven't seen any emails that Nick likes that state that NACHIS find an inspector provided them any inspection leads.

Gosh so many thoughts to Nicks professional reply to facts posted by an other professional in our profession, sorry gotta run, darned if this mornings inspection is the third this week that the customer located me on ASHI'S professional find an experienced professional inspector site.

Dan,

Michael Napadow was a member of ASHI in Illinois. He was never a member of NACHI.

I didn't go on ASHI's message board. In fact I don't go on any other message board to post or read.

Scott Patterson came here and confessed how ASHI counts people who merely sends ASHI ca$h... as members. He confessed that ASHI counts them as members. He even gave the count himself. This is the textbook definition of a "diploma mill." ASHI is a diploma mill according to their own Scott Patterson and it is keeping our industry's pricing down.

I agree with Scott.

P.S. As if that wasn't bad enough, ASHI then puts pressure on their diploma mill candidates to go out and perform inspections for poor consumers as the only way to reach fool membership. Perhaps NACHI should adopt ASHI math, start calling anyone who buys a NACHI t-shirt a member and tell them to go out and perform inspections if they want to use our logo ![nachi_sarcasm.gif](upload://6HQh6KbNiD73gqTNQInjrR2zeJw.gif) We'd have 150,000+ members then!

I wonder why Ashi is lowering their Dues,

Beginning Oct. 1, 2005, dues for Candidates will be $295 and dues for C2s and full Members will be $395. This represents an $80 savings for Candidates and a $105 savings for C2s and full Members over 2004-2005 dues/fees. Membership Dues for Retired Members were reduced as well to $85 from $105. There will be no additional chapter or strategic fees included with the dues

Point is, I didn't count them. Scott did and then admitted ASHI is a diploma mill... right here on our message board.

I didn't hold a gun to his head and make him type the post which confessed that ASHI will count you as a member if you merely send them enough money (diploma mill).

Nick, I now truly believe you are a certified psychopath. Your views and opinions are junk, and totally without merit.

It's amazing, and I am sure you'll see a pattern here. ANYONE can send you a check and be considered a CERTIFIED home inspector. With ZERO qualifications. Let me repeat...ZERO qualifications. You claim that the entrance exam is a membership requirement. But even retarded TV reporter can pass this test with no problem. Hmmm.
ASHI has entrance requirements. REAL requirements. A proctored exam, and REAL VERIFIED inspections. ASHI has been around since before you were screwing people over in your real estate deals.

How many times have we seen CERTIFIED inspectors posting messages here asking advice for their FIRST inspection. Certified without EVER having performed an inspection. I guarantee that the candidates at ASHI are far more qualified than the vast majority of NACHI "certified" members.

I am also disgusted by your partnership with AHIT, but it shouldn't surprise me that you would partner with a home inspection "school" that after only one week of training, encourages their "certified graduates" to go out and start inspecting homes. GREAT move! And you have the balls to critisize ASHI.

Nick, NACHI serves a purpose. To "certify" inexperienced home inspectors so they can join REAL associations when they are good enough or have enough REAL inspections under their belt to be considered REAL home inspectors.

There are some wonderful people here. There is some real talent here.
But you are not it. You are, and will continue to be the joke of the home inspection profession.

Gromicko, you are a joke, a psychopath, and a liar.

FYI: I am not an ASHI member. Yet.

Anyone care to bet on how long it will take Bowman to "accidentally" delete this post???
