Looks like there are already several convos about this but just wanted to keep it going. Home Advisor scammed me into joining them two years ago, promised leads, never sent me any, etc.

I CANCELLED the membership, took two or three different calls to cancel and had to take a follow-up call from them to confirm I wanted to cancel.

2 years later I see a charge on my business account for 280 bucks from Angie’s List (The company that bought home advisor) for a membership charged.

I called the company, explained that I had cancelled the account 2 years ago and they could check their records, I havent logged into the account in 2 years. They told me no we show your account is active. Went through several tiers of support only to be told we wont refund your money but we will give you a credit for your future subscription charge! I Cancelled your service two years ago! How would a credit help me?

Anyway I had them cancel the account again, they refused to send me a confirmation email but would only give me a cancellation “number”… so when they charge me again next year and I call… how much you want to bet they have no record of my so called cancellation number…

Filed a claim with my bank to get the funds reversed, hopefully they will be able to reverse the funds and prevent future charges without me having to go through the process of changing all my accounts.

Right…! Angie, Home Advisor… set false expectations…! Our business model is not suitable for this marketing lead platforms. We are not plumbers nor handymans.

The important thing to remember in doing business with any entity (public or private and that includes this outfit) is to DOCUMENT everything. This is why we have written contracts. Phone promises don’t mean a whole lot if you can’t prove they occured. Towards that end businesses regularly tell you that this call may be recorded for quality control. It is for CYA and you should be doing it as well. I use a call recorder for CYA and poor phone sound quality (my hearing isn’t that good anymore).
