Cheap Inspections...riff-raff

What does the hive mind feel about the Inspection Company that offers this kind of thing: “We’ll beat anyone’s prices…249.00 per inspection, blah blah.” I mean, I know how quality outfits feel about this, not good for anyone…but other than focusing on your own experience, certifications, knowledge, has anyone had to deal with competition from these kind of hit and run outfits in big cities? Does anyone remember another thread about this I can look at?

Pay them no mind.

We will always have them among us…FWIW

My domain “cheaphomeinspections.com” is for sale. I got it as a joke but willing to sell it…

A year or so ago, there was a company still doing any home for $199.99. I’m not sure if they are still in business. The $200.00 for any home has been a constant since I started in 2008. Those companies last through the cashflow months and then fold up within a year. Don’t let it affect your pricing.

I tell potential clients there are folks in this area that do “any size home for as low as $199”.
Are you looking for a cheap inspection or a good inspection? You will get what you pay for, the only way to get both (cheap and good) is to have two inspections.

You play jokes on yourself? LOL

Hi, Christian. Hope you are doing well and in good spirits today.

Chris, I feel we have all seen low-ballers trying to gain market share. I ask you this, would you rather do 10 inspections to earn $2,490.00, or would you rafter do 5 inspections to earn the same amount of income?
These low-ballers come and go, but the one constant is, hard working professionals make a name for themselves that lasts, and earn more by doing so.
Work smatter, not harder.

I really do not pay much attention to what others are charging. I know what my company needs and charge accordingly. You need to know what it cost for you to be in business and then work from that.

I never want to provide a service I have to apologize for later. So, I avoid the race to the bottom price wars.

Depends who there shopping for, Randy. Themselves or the wife. Lol…

All good points. Great analogies. Yeah, I don’t lack any Confidence in understanding how important a well assessed Home is. I was also kind of wondering what Nachi felt about this type of shop. Not that I want more regulations in an industry, especially in my state of California. Would I like California to realize the importance of home inspection? Maybe.

The problem is the vast majority of consumers see us all as equal. Despite what a lot of us think, no one EVER thinks about a home inspection until they need one. Then, they don’t think of us again until they need another. Sure, there are a few that have either been burned by a cheap home inspection or just understand the value but they are in the minority.

Despite all our best efforts to educate people of our value it’s an uphill battle. I’m in my 25th year and this discussion has been brewing the entire time and I’m sure 25 years from now it still will be.

Every once in a while, I get that call, “Your’s is how much? I can get the house inspected, with a WDO for $300. Can you match their price?” My response is always “Nope - good luck.”
