Explain…when have you ever been afraid to hurt peoples feelings?
Ok.
It only works on those foolish enough to think it means something more than a purchased advertising/marketing gimmick. I try not to insult those people. You have to pay for it or you cannot have the title. “Unless you swing a deal” I do not believe those it works on know this.
But at least I admit it works.
If it were free I would try to obtain the title.
Come on thats it?
Excellent thinking Michael…I would become a CMI neither. Waste of money.
Come on thats it?
Come on thats it?
That’s it…what else is there to say?
I expect much more from you than a little reverse psychology crap response.
It’s ok. I had a busy day as well.
Russell,
If I needed it for my marketing plan, or to get more business, I would probably use it, but I don’t. If the next big thing that comes down the pike fits, I’ll use it, if not I’ll do something else that works.
As I’ve said countless times, CMI a great marketing tool for those who need it, and I don’t think less of anyone who uses it. I passed it up when it was $175 or so at it’s inception, and will happily pass now at 1k.
If I ever think I need it, or any other designation to sell my service, I will plunk down the money in a city second.
So, you wouldn’t pay for an ad in the yellow pages, or on the radio, or on a local TV station, or in a home sales book, or anywhere else because the only way to advertise your business and credentials is for free?
What designation is free?
Like I said it works and I would try to obtain that level if it were free.
I pay for other things for advertising.
I would not feel right purchasing a title.
Do as you wish that is just unethical ole me.
Mind revealing where in the world you found a form of advertising that positions you as the best inspector to 100,000 REALTORs in your state with a full-page ad that costs less than a penny an agent?
I certainly agree that you should analyze all your advertising options. But if you’ve found something better than that CMI ad, in shame, I’m going to jump off a 10 story building and slice my throat on the way down.
Too easy…
Nick,
I do not doubt it works for one second and I think you do a hell of a lot for inspectors in general.
If it were free then I would strive to obtain the designation.
Times Are Tough and Money is Hard.
I won’t finish that because I do not want to piss off Michael.
See Russell I am a calmer gentler inspector than I may have been in the past.
Michael what you are and what you want to be is in YOUR hands, no one elses. When it comes to CMI, you do not see its intrinsic value, because for some reason you are closed to its idea.
Name another designation that requires more for the Home Inspection Industry? I don’t know of any. I personally think you say it has no value, because you cannot obtain it. Its much easier to shrug it off and downplay it when you can’t be one.
You do not doubt it works for one second and yet you won’t become one. And you own and run a business?
You state times are tough and money is hard. You save money in the wrong places. Its like saying your going to save money by not putting gas in your car, but then in return you can’t go to work! It and YOU make no sense at all. But then again, I am used to that.
Like I have told you before.
Not a good deal for me at this time.
Can you buy down the three year requirement for the CMI designation with “good behavior” ?
Dude you are the man… LoL
I will become a CMI as soon as I meet all the requirements. It should be just a few months more form me.
I posted over a year ago and stated then that I wanted something to differentiate me from every other new Florida home inspector with a license in their back pocket. I became a CMI about 6 months ago after being in business, full time, for 6 years. It has worked for me in that it has more than paid for itself in increased revenue, and will continue to generate income. Nick encouraged me and what he said made business sense. I don’t regret it one bit and I don’t hesitate to let prospective clients know that I am a Master Inspector. Since Meeker has stated in this thread twice that he is not qualified to become a CMI then I would think CMI membership is a moot point on his part. And from what I have read on this message board, in his own words, I would never hire him to do my home inspection anyway. Any time an individual changes career directions is it based on $$, or lack thereof. If you are a mediocre, struggling contractor or roofer or electrician then chances are that you will be a mediocre home inspector in the event that you change careers. I have been around long enough to know and understand that the Meekers of the world just tend to go away sooner or later. I don’t post often on the message board but I do read it periodically. When I see posts time stamped all day long by individuals I know they are not out doing home inspections. There must be a reason.
