CMI runs full-page ad that hits over 100,000 Florida REALTORs.

Me too. Inspector Attire - InterNACHI®

So, a professional inspector and CMI can wear shorts or jeans, show their tats and nose ring. Interesting.

Like I said. It’s a marketing tool, and it should be “CVI”.

Building a 1,000 homes is no comparison to having 700 hrs. of approved education and performed 300 realtor friendly inspections.

Look at it this way — When u are building a home you witness each independent and individual aspect of the job. If you have built a thousand homes you have witnessed the carpenters fastening truss anchorage hardware a 1000 times. If you have performed a 1000 home inspections, you have inspected those truss straps a 1000 times for conformance to building standards. A house may involve more components and is certainly more comprehensive in nature ---- but the comparison is there between the two is legit – IMHO

I agree with you if you are a builder who has actually been on site and seen those things. Not all builders go on site daily, or even sometimes weekly. I know a couple of very good inspectors who came from being supers. They saw, and corrected a lot.

No argument from me on that one.

So why don’t we start “Veteran Inspector” or “Certified Veteran Inspector” for iNACHI?

OOOOPS, that would compete with cmi, sorry! :D:D

…or Full-Time inspector :roll::shock:

You can make up whatever you like just like the cmi DESIGINATION.

That one makes about as much sense as part time politician…

LMAO…I like it. Is it marketing? Yep. I ponied up the 1K and took a shot. Bet it pays off.

You all say its nothing but marketing. Well guess what…YOUR RIGHT. Big secret, most of business is MARKETING. If you suck at marketing, your going to fail. This exact organization is proof positive that great inspectors can go hungry while average inspectors get by with no problem and sometime it a great inspector with good marketing. I will tell you this without proper marketing get used to saying this “Would you like cheese on that”, because that is where you are headed.

I am very happy with the CMI program and the AD that just went out. I bet a whole bunch more sign up next time…

I’ve never argued over marketing. It’s all good. As a marketing only tool, CMI is fine on it’s surface.

A professional designation designed to define the “masters” should actually do just that, however. There are millions of plumbers and electricians, but a relative few have gone through the requirements to become a master. Hell, as you know it takes 4 years just to become a journeyman.

If we seek to become a profession, rather than an industry, we should strive for the same.

CMI simply denotes those who’ve been in business for three years and have a combination of education and inspections. When we got our Charlotte County licenses, you know, that slip of paper that Nick says gives us permission to do something, any one who applied had to prove three years. The requirements for that license were more strict than the CMI designation. Only meant that we were experienced, not masters.

This has been discussed in many threads, and it’s like beating a dead house.

Personally I like the CMI designation and hope that the ad works out. If I had 1000 inspections under my belt I would probably sign up as well, marketing.

Just one thought…if you are the used house salesperson would you advise your client to use a CMI or would your first thought be, he is TOO good, do the math. CMI + HI = DK (Deal Killer) - 6% = $0.00 Commission. Again, just a thought.

It would only mean something if it could be earned by anyone regardless of their financial situation.

No Pay No Play.

Anyone who wants to send me $500 bucks I will certify you as whatever you want as long as it is a make believe title like CMI.

I will even make you a fancy document.

What would you consider a full time inspector? would I not qualify because I also run a construction company?

I bet I do more inspections a month then other “fulltime” guys

Judging by Nick’s smiley’s, I believe his comment was a joke, just like the designation would be.

Insinuating that a full time inspector is more competent than a part timer is foolish, at best.

Absolutely nothing wrong at all with paying for the designation and the marketing efforts that go with it. If it is worth it to those that have or want it, it should be paid for. Things that are free or cheap are usually worth what you pay for them. Personally, I have no desire to pony up 1 large for a designation that I qualified for many years before it’s inception. We all have our marketing avenues, and mine doesn’t drive up that road at this point. Those that have it though, have obviously made a business decision that the money spent will be returned many times over. That is marketing, and investing in your business.

Excellent post.

What your not looking at is how many 18 year olds become home inspectors? I personally don’t know of ANY. So when you say it takes 4 years to become a Journeyman, that is usually a young man working his way up the ladder.

Home Inspectors tend to be (not 100% but a vast majority) tend to have experience in another field close to a field in which they are doing now, such as electrical, builder, AC, plumber…

So you are really not comparing apples to apples.

Are full time inspectors better than part time. I would say on average yes. The way I look at it is, are full time tennis players better than part time? Golfers, artists, for the most part YES, but as with all things there are exceptions to the rules. (preston)

What I see here are people getting mad because #1 they don’t meet the criteria and are upset #2 don’t want to pay, because they think its a useless designation. Here is the part you fail to see, first in reaps the benefits all other will be viewed as followers. So in five years when you brag about being a CMI, I will already be onto the next thing. Playing catch up is a waste of time. Business isn’t seeing what people are doing, its anticipating the next move and beating them to the punch.

Laugh all you want, tell me its a nothing certificate, tell me its a bunch of crap…it works for me…

I myself believe it works.

Why I do not wish to insult and it will not hurt me so I will not say.

Lets just say it is about the people it works on.
