I’m currently working on a Logo for my LLC and thought I would put it out there for critique. I use Photoshop fairly well, and after a few (actually many) ideas came up with this. I wanted something a little different than the magnifying glass normally used. I have (2) Domains: 5-point and five-point home inspection.
Feel free to share your opinions, it’ll be on website soon. Thanks
Whats the significance of ‘5-Points’?
It’s a “crossroads” area near where I live, well known. It’s called Five-Points.
I would put all of the lettering together. And either use numerical 5 or spelled out five, not both. That’s just my opinion.
Just be sure to think it all the way thru. Two color print. Business cards. Letterhead. Truck lettering. Embroidery etc. Simple usually translates best.
Thanks Brian, good point. I’m going to try and simplify for patches, embroidery, etc. I think most printing is relatively easy nowadays, but I may be mistaken. I appreciate the critique, I figured who would be better to come to than HI’s.
Thanks Christopher. I think I’m going to increase the Opacity in order to blend the “5” in more. Appreciate your opinion.
Lol… Not sure if I was expecting that…
So where is your ‘individuality’ in that Logo? It could be for anything or anyone!
When someone see’s your logo, they should think of you, not an area!
Just sayin’.
My 1st thought: 5 Point is a name , 5 Points is “only” 5 things you will be looking for in an inspection.
Constructive criticism! No snarkyness intended!
Illustrator is much better suited for graphic design than photoshop. In my opinion - when you use photoshop for graphic design, you can tell. You used word art and gradient effects and it isn’t vectored (it doesnt have to be vectored for small printing applications, but it looks horrible when you print something that isnt suited for the resolution and you can see pixels). The overall aesthetic doesn’t look very modern. The color pallete is very monotone - I would pick a non-neutral accent color to compliment the blue shades. The font is very commonplace. I would be very hesitant before using any fonts that come stock with Microsoft/apple.
Also, like mentioned previously, it doesn’t scream (or even suggest, other than the words) “home inspection”.
My own business is on the back burner while i cut my teeth, but I used a Pakistanti graphic artist I found on fiverr.com to make my logo for me. Im really happy with it and it cost me $40. He offered me unlimited reworks and put together a logo, business cards, letter head & enveloipe design and report cover for me. He gave me the source files for the images and also pdf’s to send out for printing.
This doesn’t look like a logo to me at all. InterNACHI creates some beautiful logos. Why not buy some business cards and some brochures and let InterNACHI create a beautiful logo for free.
You’re going to buy business cards and brochures anyway, why not give some of the money back to the organization for designing a professional logo?
You have one chance to get it right the first time. After that it’s all over your business cards, brochures vehicle etc.
It’s still a work in progress. I like to do my own designs, although InterNACHI makes some fine logos.
Five-Points is a local name. I’m looking to design mainly for a website, and will most likely simplify it for business cards.
Thanks for the input, back to work on it. Thanks all.
Looks like a labor of love and I like the fact you can endure criticism. Seems most people cannot these days. I would personally enjoy seeing your final product. I hope you will share. Best of luck.
Used to be a professional Photographer years ago, hence the reason for using Photoshop and using critique to my advantage. I appreciate the vote of confidence, still working full time so I have time on my side to develop a website, although plan on retiring soon…
I live in the five Points area so it makes sense from my perspective. Anyone searching from Escambia, and Okaloosa counties might not understand what 5 points stands for. Keep in mind, customers that are not familiar with inspections might be confused. This holds especially true based on the fact we perform 4 Point inspections with most of our home inspections. if you plan on branching out with with ancillary services or commercial work it might be a potential problem. The more generic the better from my opinion.
I think most in the general area of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties know of Five-Points. Not sure how many people know of Four Point inspections, other than Realtors, etc. which hopefully regard Five Points as a growing community. I do plan on expanding to some ancillary inspections as well. Your points are well taken though. Thanks
Be careful naming your company after a city/town/location. If someone from a nearby town is looking for an inspection, they might think you only do work in that one location. If you keep that name, make sure you state someplace on your website where you do business, or something like “doing business in Five Points and all surrounding areas”, etc. Also, I’m one of those guys that wants to know what the company does, so the logo or name should somehow indicate that the business is Home Inspections, versus being a plumber or an appraiser or insurance agent, etc. Good luck
