I thought I read somewhere that electrical shut offs need to be present at the pool equipment.

Anybody got a reference they can send me to on that?

All help appreciated.

Can you be more specific as to your question? The equipment shutoff is often located at the service equipment.

Jeff,

There are two, twqenty amp breakers in the main panel that feed the equipment control panel (remote control panel). There are no electrical service shut offs within site of the control panel. The manufacturer of the control panel suggests a sub panel within 15 feet of their panel. I was hoping to provide a code refernence as additional backup. This is for a neighbor of mine.

Manufacturers recommendations are as good as a code reference.

Article 680 of the NEC addresses pool equipment but there is nothing requiring shutoffs at or near the equipment.

I believe this applies. Depending on the definition of ‘utilization equipment’

IRC 2003
E4103.3 Disconnecting means. An accessible disconnecting
means to disconnect all ungrounded conductors for all utiliza-
tion equipment, other than lighting, shall be provided and
located within sight from all pools, spas, and hot tub equipment,
and shall be located not less than 5 feet (1524 mm) from the
inside walls of the pool, spa or hot tub.
