Hi every one here has been great and informative for everything I talked about on here.but one thing I seem to be struggling with is getting clients it self I’ve been talking to realtors and brokers that I know personally but there clients keep Denying an inspection I’ve been going in back and fourth to realtors around my area with business cards to pass out and introducing my self and have been posting online as well and it seems like the only people who have called me In two months was a scammer I’ve been pouring money into it and working on my craft but no clients is there a way I am missing ? I do have a handy man business and that took off quicker but I do also work for maintenance and started off my businesses for that by going through my boss at the hoa I work for to contract other property’s but I just can’t seem to get this home inspection one going
What does the above bolded mean?
You’re marketing to the WRONG people!!
Where do you have your Website listed so far?
What is your Website Domain so we can check it for suggestions, and the extra ‘hits’ should help with “Google Juice”!
That the clients he had didn’t want to do a home inspection for the property they were buying
I’ve been using the internachi search site for our area to guide people there to contact me I don’t have the money right now to buy the website to get it set up right now we’re in the process of buying a house our selfs and trying to save what we can for closing
Hmmm…at least that is what he told you. Virtually, everyone gets an inspection these days. Banks even want to see them often when considering a mortgage or rate.
Getting to your market audience is paramount to securing the deal. Hence, why Jeffrey asked about your website where potential clients will find you.
And that right there is 99% of your problem IMO!!
I’ve been an InterNachi member for 16+ years, and I think in all that time, I’ve only received about a dozen or two actual calls for inspections from the InterNachi resources.
My websites (yes, plural) bring me 75% of my NEW clients.
You will never have a chance without at least a webPAGE in this market and society. You simply do not exist without one!
That is worthless.
Perhaps it is not the time for you to start a business where you need enough $ for startup AND for 6 months to a years, or so, of $ to pay overhead and bills in general until the business can support itself. This is a quirky market now and not good to try to start on a shoestring.
Yeah I thought this might have been sufficient enough for now till I could get it I was hoping to get som business to pay for it in time Steven Sturgeon - Davis, CA Certified Home Inspector - InterNACHI®
How did you ever expect to begin ANY business without funding for a start-up?!?
That’s basically a business card. You need a website. There’s a lot of resources here at NACHI on kick starting your business. Study it and then implement it as part of your business plan. Which should be renamed “Business Action” cuz a plan is just a plan.
I’ve done it before with my other business just was trying to do it again but if it’s impossible with out a site then I’m just going to have to sit for a minute keep my dues paid till I get it up
Poor choice of words!
You need to keep off your arse and keep LEARNING anywhere you can to gain as much knowledge possible!
That doesn’t mean to waste our time on the MB teaching someone that’s not going anywhere anytime soon. We have our own work and studying and marketing to do!
Take every webinar you can find that’s even remotely related to building in any way!
When you’re actually ready to start up, and get your website LIVE, come back and let us check it out.
THEN those of us still working would be more willing to share our time and knowledge.
Yeah, I know… but the truth hurts sometime.
This is likely the worst time in recent history to try to begin the (usually) slow process of building your inspection company. Between uncontrollable market forces (mortgage interest rates, lack of inventory), a surplus of home inspectors, and rising list prices for the few houses available, the pie has gotten much smaller.
It can be done, but you need patience, a solid plan, money to live on, marketing, etc… And lots of Ramen noodles…
Hi Steven, I see that there has already been some great feedback in many areas that may be important for you. I will comment on something that hasn’t been mentioned yet and that I feel is equally important…
Your grammar really sucks! I find your posts hard to read and find it quite annoying. Are you conversing with clients and realtors in the same manner that you are posting your questions here, on this forum?
If this is your MO on correspondence, you really need to understand your audience. The realtors you are probably conversing with via online, email, text, etc., and the clients you are trying to reach are possibly an older generation than yours and they may be accustomed to, at the very least, proper grammar, or at least some semblance of proper grammar.
Edit: I would consider grammar as an important factor of how one determines your professionalism or lack thereof as a HI.
Thank you for the input I will work on it.
You need a website!!!
Simply Put in 1823 your business would come from word of Mouth.
But in 1923 you needed to purchase a phone and some Newspaper Advertising.
in 2023 you Need A Website!…even before you purchase a back-up screwdriver.
You can get a website set up through Go-Daddy for very little money (A couple hundred bucks) which will include some software were you can build your own website and if you are at all tech savy can probably do the SEO thing enough to get a presence going also get a FB page going, which costs Nothing…later when you get going you can maybe get a professional to spruce up your website.
One major tip: When you do get any kind of presence out there, you will be getting a lot of Spammers (as we all do now from our InterNACHI listings) wanting to put you an “the first page of Google”…And if Angi, Home Adviser, Yelp…etc. contact you promising you Jobs…don’t waste your money (You can Thank Me Later)
In my local area, the inventory is so low, most sellers of the desirable, hot properties are only accepting offers without contract contingencies such as a home inspection.
I would “second” Larry’s comments above. If your new or established, you need a website period. I would add to Larry’s comments by saying learning how to use WordPress and building and updating your website is actually fun to do. Your in charge. Will cost you very little. The return is people finding you and hiring you. Do it now. Don’t put this off.
