My 2 cents worth, is the move to put this section in Member only , would be the way to go.for the monument. The past few weeks I have shared this site with customers and other inspectors , they like it very much and what we stand for . But when they come to this thread , it sort of turns them off and they are thinking twice about NACHI.

Our web site should be mostly Home inspection information and views from others on the inspection industry only.

We all have a purpose and need to be here , that is to grow , and do the best in life, provide for our families and succeed.this has motivated me personally , being a member of Nachi. But ! back to this subject lets move it to member only.

I am in complete agreement with moving the thread to th emembers only section.

I also am of the belief that as a whole 98% of the people in this organization and on the message board can throw barbs back and forth without hurting any feelings, or upsetting any personal preferences.

A point in fact is another thread regarding the COE where a lot of people had their say, and were in agreement against someone else. All in all I believe that if someone is going to say something negative or attack someone else on this board, they are going to hear about it from a lot of people.

We all are responsible for ourselves, or should be, and a professional should not be offensive to someone intentionally, and if one is offensive to anyone else then an apology is in order.

We can all govern ourselves accordingly, Can’t we?

I guess that ia potintial customer would not be turned off at the idea that most of the inspectors on this forum drink, cuss, enjoy lewd behavior, post lewd photos, and enjoy pornigraphic material. That material is ACCEPTED??? And is OK FOR PUBLIC VIEW??? icon_rolleyes.gif

I am against moving it to the members-only section on different grounds. Who decides what should be moved where? Slippery slope.

I thought Joe Burkeson’s post a few back was so good that I wanted to put that ASHI quote here again:

Well said Lester. I agree with you. The bottom line is that the discussion has become controversial. That’s not necessarily a problem, except why should it be available for public viewing by people that would give us business?

No matter what your view, it is a turn off. The poll is already demonstrating that.

We should only be showing content to outsiders that is consistent with the organizations charter.

Note the title and description of the Miscellaneous Forum:

Misc. Discussion

Discuss whatever you wish in this forum.

FIRST, let me clarify. I don't object to Will & Russell's exchange. I don't object to Iggy's pic's (though I shouldn't have looked at the dead possum in the road right after breakfast).

But a few thoughts on the moving & censorship issue.

We've got Gerry bringing up the issue of deleting the thread. But in reference to Iggy's stuff, he says:

Hi to all,

I must admit until Igor started out doing me I was king of the dead animal series, however even I must bow to the master in this field

We all need a few laughs in this business and I for one would hate to see Igor stop posting his “gems” I know it’s not very seemly but it makes us laugh, I as well take our business seriously but we are amongst friends… I hope! just keep it below ‘R’ rated and no one should take offense. even our potential customers, from what I have seen they appreciate our mix of professionalism, openness and humor.

Joe Hagarty saying it should be moved or gone, I don't remember which but in reference to Iggy's stuff, he says:

Igor:

Keep your posts to this thread and I would greatly appreciate it. Those that take offense to our antics will generally post on forums elsewhere complaining and chastising which only leads to more interest and traffic here.

One thread will not discourage nor will it encourage individuals to jump in to the forum or join the NACHI Org. The one thread will however show the diversity of our Organization. This will contribute to our growth I believe.

Personally I find your pics humorous as long as it is kept here. At least I know where to look for new posts.

Thank you. Its good to have a chuckle at the end of a long day.

NO, I'm not picking on Gerry or Joe, those were just two easy to find contradictions. I'm sure there's more, but I'm not digging for them.

Have any of you really THOUGHT about the offensiveness (to some people) of some of Iggy's pics, but let you think they should stay, while discussion of religion and homosexuality should be moved & hidden, or deleted.

Look at these pics from the general public's eye, not yours, then tell me why we should hide homosexuality and religion but leave these open.

(Notice the Title of this picture!)

(Of course we have to bring politics into it also.)

Just leave it all alone in the Miscellaneous discussion.

Those who want to read it will. Those who don't like it, don't have to read it or look at the pics.

I REALLY don't want to start seeing censorship here.
Though it may already be to late as the thread appears to have been moved to Member's Only already. Are we now going to start moving other threads that someone finds objectionable.

The thread that was moved was showing none of the above, and indeed had developed into nothing more than a personal urinating competition between 2 members who will never agree on religeous issues. my major issue over this thread is 2 fold firstly it has no bearing on our business and secondly as I said when this started that we and our clients cover every color of the spectrum on these issues and it is way too easy to offend people.

Gerry

William,

It is absolutely impossible to please everyone all of the time.
To some people this may be offensive.
To some people they would look at it like the inspector was just like them.
I believe it should be in the members only section.
Then, if you do not want to read it, you do not have to.
Personally (no offense meant here) I cannot stand to be preached to by anyone. My life is only what I make it, good or bad.
Sometimes I believe that there is a higher power. Sometimes I do not.
When I am going into a burning building blinded by smoke and sweating bullets from heat to find and hopefullysave a life, it is a liitle difficult to believe in anything. And sometimes when I really think about it I wonder how a higher power would allow things like that to happen.
I know your answer would be along the lines of the Lord having another purpose for that person/people, and that is great, but I do not think I believe that way.

But the beauty of the freedom we share in our countries is the right to free speech, and to a great extent "to each his own"

Gerry.

May I ask why, if you find Will's posts offensive, you continue to read them.

You know well the general nature of them, but continue to read them and be offended.

If strip clubs offended me, I wouldn't go in.

If pornography offended me, I wouldn't read it.

If bars offended me, I wouldn't go in.

If churchs offended me, I wouldn't go in.

If an association offended me, I wouldn't join.

The examples are countless.

But, while it appears you are offended, you continue to go in, read them, be offended.

Please help me undertand the reasoning here?

I had indeed stopped reading the previous thread and my comments (made privately) were about a comment in this thread.
