I have been finding ITE Pushmatic electrical service panels in homes about 25 yrs old and older. I have not heard much about these. Are these good panels? Anybody have any history on them?

Thanks Jon

Jon,

There are no defects associated with Pushmatics but they are indeed old and hard to locate when a replacement is needed.

I recently had a client tell me that he finally found one (last one in the store) and it cost him $41.00, compared to $4.00 for a simple (easy to find) circuit breaker.

I simply inform my clients what I have just stated here.

Is there a special procedure to take the panel covers off on these types of panels? I have not come across one yet.

Thanks,

Oscar

Oscar,

No special procedure required for pushmatic covers. Follow the same standards you would with a circuit breaker dead front cover. The covers are removed in a similar manner. 4-6 screws at outer edges.

I loved my pushmatic panel at my old home.

The connections for the breakers to the busbar are screws. IMO, better and safer than the clamp on stuff from most other panel brands.

If they were still available I'd choose a pushmatic panel for my home.
