Logo Copywright

I have been in business for 4 years and I purchased a logo design from Vista Logos. They have now been calling me threaten me to sue me because my logo is not copywrited. I paid for the design, they designed my logo, i paid them, now they are wanting me to pay $1200 to copywrite the logo or be sued for copywrite infringement. Can anyone give me some direction as to my rights? I think this is extortion, but certainly do not want to me sued.

Are you sure the call is legit and not a scam?

The company is not VistaPrint. It is call Vista Logos.

I’m thinking along the lines that JR and Jeff both are. I’d be reading the fine print of your contract with whoever made your logo though.

They are the same/sister company when I Google it.

I am not sure they are trying to scam me. But they are relentless with thier threats. Not sure the logo copywrite laws. Can they sue me for my logo? Do logos need to be copywrite to avoid this type of harassment?

The reviews!

Are these the people you have used https://thevistalogos.com/ ? If not provide us a link to their site so others can understand your plight.

If this is the company they state 100% ownership. If your contract supports this then I would agree with JR Scott Fudge that this sounds like some type of scam. If so contact the company that did your work and speak with them to verify this demand. Then you can go from there.

If you paid them for the design I don’t see how they can sue you for using it. I did the same thing and get emails of them basically threatening to allow others to use it and wanting some money to allow me to copyright, etc. so no one else can use it. I just ignore it and don’t hear back. I agree with the others to read the T/Cs of the contract. I lean towards telling them to go pound sand.

Sounds like lots of people are experiencing the same thing. I’m leaning towards it being scammers who have a list of Vista Logo customers.

You should contact @gromicko and see what the legal team has to say.

Just apply for a copywriter, it’s not that expensive.

Just dump it and have InterNACHI’s team build you a similar one, but improved, for free: https://marketing.nachi.org/logos

Let them sue you can’t stop that, then make sure you act if you are served with official court documents. This happened to me over photos on my website and here is how I handled it.

Both my business and residency is Florida, they were attempting to sue me in Oklahoma. On the day I was to appear in court I had a local lawyer (look for a low-cost guy whose office is very close to the courthouse) appear for me and demand that the lawsuit be filed in Florida since that is where I reside.

That was all it took never heard from them again and it cost me $500 back in 2006. Anyway a threat is just that, if you have no intention of paying them the money then wait & see what happens, and you should probably limit your correspondence by giving them no information they could use against you. All & all looks like a fishing expedition wait for official notice.

Until you leave Internachi, then guess who owns the rights to it… just like the rest of everything they develop for “Members”!

It’s a wonder why this guy even stays . . guess he has nowhere else to go (or no one will have him).
