I had a complimentary breakfast this morning at Bob Evans and then got a coupon for a free meal from Texas Roadhouse.
Dad passed in 2012, he was 98. He was drafted in May 1941 to the 116th infantry, 29th Division. Went to OCS in 1942 at Fort Benning Georgia. He entered combat at the Gustav Line in Italy. Served as a liaison officer (First Lieutenant) for the 337 under Col. Oliver W. Hughes. Bronze star awarded Sept. 1944 for action Mt. Pratone to Moschetta Italy. Returned to US 1946.
Re-enlisted USAR 1947. retired in 1972 as a Lt. Colonel. Remarked to his wife some 60 years later, “I don’t think I killed anybody; I hope I didn’t.”

My dad was a member of the 10th Mt. Div. 87th Mountain inf. Regiment. The only Army Unit to serve in both the Asiatic Pacific and European Theaters. Dad and the 87th was with Task Force 9 for the invasion of Kiska, Aug 1943 and N. Italy 1945. This is Dad’s Rifle Squad shortly after arriving in Norther Italy. Dad is the one with the Springfield 03-A4 Scoped rifle. Dad passed away in 1998, miss him everyday…
