Been thinking about buying a moisture meter for mold testing - any suggestions on which one is the best? Also any comments on mold testing equipment. Thanks

Just moved up from my original Protimeter Mini to the Protimeter Surveymaster. Boy, what an improvement! The surveymaster does everything the mini does, but it adds an all-important non-destructive “Search” mode to the mix.

So, now I can do my searching with the non-invasive no pins method & when I find a suspicious area, I can use the pins to get an exact percentage reading. Additionally, when using the non-contact mode, it displays a Relative Moisture reading while in the the Measure mode, it shows %WME or Wood Moisture Equivalent percentage. Pretty useful IMHO.

It's a very nice combination of features at a [reasonable] price.

Very limited surface visibility at exterior. High powered flash light telegraphed past moisture trails. Tramex to the rescue ![icon_biggrin.gif](upload://iKNGSw3qcRIEmXySa8gItY6Gczg.gif) The second photo has the appearance of wet damp walls, but they were totally dry.

Yup, I enjoy mine. Had a selling agent hanging around the inspection with my client and his agent. My client asked about this one wall area that had some evidence of moisture. Selling agent says "Oh, that had a little moisture from the basement window but it's all dry now and there's no problem anymore. My client looked at me questioningly. I pulled out the Tramex and put it on the wall. It pegged out. The seller's agent looked sheepish and said he'd have the panelling removed and any problems fixed.

I don't know if my client bought the house but he sure got educated on some realtor's BS.

If you want to get the Tramex Moisture Encounter (or the Plus model) look at what is on eBay right now:

Tramex Moisture Encounter Plus, Non-Destructive Meter
eBay Item number: 4401919230

Don't know what it'll actually sell for, but at the moment, the [reserve not met] price is at $80... worth following this auction?

Is the Tramex able to test EIFS?

Also - have a house where the Dryvit is installed below grade (haven't seen any Dryvit houses before, so I'm looking at web sites to get educated), I would guess that this is a bad idea (being below grade) due to water wicking - am I right? Any comments?

Ken

Tramex has a fairly large line of specialty testers. They do have several systems available for EIFS inspections.

Here's the Tramex site links
