I was made aware of a non-member’s post on another message board whereby he incorrectly stated something to the effect that NACHI has no Standards of Practice, no Code of Ethics, and that all one had to do to join was pay.
I called him at home to ask him why he had this false impression. He explained that he saw our application and that all it asked for was the applicant's contact info and money.
He was not aware of the other membership requirements or the affidavit that accompanies the application, (but which is on a different page in a different file). He was not aware that our membership department sends every new member an affidavit to sign and a return postage-paid mailer to get it back to us. He was not aware we had a SOP or a COE.
He did us a great service by pointing out how our application (alone) gives a false impression.
We have now corrected this PR glitch by unifying the application and affidavit into one document with the payment information appearing last.
The new unified Affidavit/Application is available at http://www.nachi.org/join.htm in both WORD and pdf formats.
I then called him back to thank him, whereby he joined.
