Youse guys must have it really bad out in PA. In my area, I constantly hear new inspectors from the St. Louis end of the state that ASHI has the realtors ears and unless they do dirt cheap inspections its hard to get into business. Thats been confirmed by several St. Louis ASHi guys that over the years have told us - In St. Louis you’re ASHI or you don’t work.
In KC we’ve recently had agents tell us that a couple of well placed ASHI members have been working the rounds of BIG RE Offices with the old line about “If you’re not ASHI, you’re not …”. AND last year we had ASHI folks working with legislators behind the other inspectors backs to get a licensing law in place that greatly favored (guess who).
We try to work around it, but it gets old. I’m just amazed and proud that our guys haven’t sued anybody yet for … or aren’t calling them names!

Are you kidding me? I believe one or two of the real estate companies here actually provide a listing of all ashi guys and have the home owner sign it, then it is left at the house for the potential purchaser to see that the home owner recommends ashi people.
i am sure alot of pa guys have seen it. i tear them up and complain to the agents but they could care less.

Many of us, I suspect most of us, would like to see the entire industry work in together in harmony. Some other association members are angry because they see NACHI continuing to grow as their memberships decline. Instead of directing their energy to making their organizations more attractive to new members, they too often choose to put their tme and effort into making others, spcifically NACHI, look bad.
I joined NACHI for many of the same reasons a lot of inspectors do. I get a lot of benefits as a member. I’ve belonged to several other organizations, including many outside the home inspection industry. No other organization I’ve ever belonged to has worked as hard for its members as NACHI does for its members.
Every one of us, including Nick Gromicko, is entitled to his own opinion. I’ve never perceived Nick to be a person to start a conflict but I know that he is not one to take a punch without fighting back. He has a right to defend himself and a duty to defend NACHI.
If I had it to do all over again, I’d still go with NACHI. NACHI offered more for home inspectors than any other trade assocation on the day I joined NACHI, and NACHI offers much more today than when I first joined.
John you are a fair and balanced man, you are big enough to admit when you make mistakes. You are smart enough to adjust, when the real facts become evident and I salute you for this. Having said this, I would like to make you aware of another judgement that you have brought forth concerning James Bushart. Now that you have been presented the truth, and changed your mind about Nachi, maybe this same truth will show you why JB has/does stick to his guns on certain issues. He may be harsh, condemning, ruthless, rude, hateful, ugly, and downright monotonous at times, but other than that he is a cherry! He has something that is rare in these times, and that is** integrity.** If you will be open minded and allow yourself , you may just end up listening to and liking the big lug. O.K. that’s all the praise I will heap on him.(until the next check anyway;-) ) Thank you for your honesty John.
When you consider that there are probably as many non-affiliated inspectors out there working as there are members of nahi, ashi and NACHI combined, it would make more sense for nahi and ashi to go after them. Perhaps if those associations would provide a reason to join, and a reason to stay, like www.nachi.org/benefits , they would attract and keep more members.
When I was looking to join an association I was told by an ashi member, don’t bother, they don’t want you, they just want your money. Naturally, this could have simply been one disgruntled member, but at that time he had been a member for many years. Any business or association needs to consistently strive to improve it’s product to stay competitive. Almost all of us here are small business owners, and we realize that first hand.
Perhaps instead of worrying about suing us and putting us out of business, ashi and nahi should improve their product and attract more members. 
ASHI is a very cold place for those who refuse to tow the party line, warmth is doled out on a needs only basis to those who fervently support the ivory tower crew, expect no warm fuzzies and no cutting in line, ever.
If you resonate well with the concept of… Jam tomorrow, jam yesterday, but never jam today, there may be hope for your steady advancement through the ranks but expect to spend many years on the ladder looking up at… well you know.

I agree ashi is cold for the newbs, but once you get to know some of the guys it really does change.
I found that so many guys come and go in this proffession that to get freindly with them all is really a waste. i became freinds with a lot of guys who 4 months later quit the inspection bussiness and have no longer seen or heard from. sometimes to spend your time helping someone who leaves can be a waste of ones time.
Someone gave me a “red” for this, without saying who. I was simply pointing out an error that could (I’m not a lawyer) come back to haunt you. Guess I’ll stop trying to help.
I am new to NACHI, about 6 months. Some other Home Inspectors asked me why I choose NACHI instead of NAHI or ASHI. My reply came quickly SUPPORT in knowledge, with online training, SUPPORT in marketing, with plans to get your name out there, SUPPORT in discounts for tools and reporting systems and many other items needed to start a business from scratch. I can’t understand why there is hostility between the different organizations. I think they are just jealous of all the benefits a NACHI member receives for free. I really beleive in the saying “if you don’t have something good to say, say nothing”
