"Right now, for a limited time, The Master Inspector Certification Board, in response to the incredible success its top designees have had with offerings like RecallChek, 90 Day Warranties, SewerGard, MoldSafe, and the insanely popular 5 Year Roof Leak Protection Plan,* has partnered with the Inspector Services Group** to deliver a full six months of all of these services FREE on the Full Concierge program. There’s nothing else like it in the market, and CMI’s that sign up here will get a custom video as well ($300 value) for use in advertising and on their websites."*
Did you or did you not partner with him on this? Yes or No
And we did investigate, and it appears that you did. So answer the question please.
And guess what. EVERY SINGLE INSPECTOR in the world can claim to be a “Master Inspector”, just not a “Certified Master Inspector”.
The CMI Board does not hold a trademark for “Master Inspector”, only for “Certified Master Inspector”. Unless things have changed, “Certified Master Inspector” is not on the Principal Register. It is only on the Supplemental Register having not met the requirements for the Principal Register AS OF THIS TIME.
By the time Nick and Nathan get finished playing their games, the public will simply laugh at any and all Inspection designations and rightfully so.
CMI WAS on the right path to something real and powerful with credibility behind it. Nicks current stunts will soon destroy all of the good that was started.
If any of his staff has any power at all they need to stop his craziness before he destroys CMI and then NACHIs credibility.
The LAST things that the membership needs is an appointed spokesman or committee to represent the membership to Nick. One of the greatest things about the association is that the members have the ability to directly voice their opinions to Nick and to lobby other members via this message board. Only in rare instances do messages get deleted and Nick does have an amazing capacity to allow himself to be publicly challenged and criticized by the members here. We don’t need any representative committee who’s sole purpose is insulate the membership and lobby Nick. Each member can do that in their own words without polling or voting, being as crude or eloquent as they choose.
The point is that NACHI and CHI don’t operate via committee (witness how many members are on the CMI board and who they are) and they are not member run associations. There are both strengths and weaknesses to a dictatorship, Nick is usually as benevolent a dictator as you could hope for, but don’t confuse it for a democracy. What you do have a direct say in is whether you will be a member of the association or not. Of course, when there is only one association left, you are limited a binary choice.
Nachi is a business. A non profit, which is as transparent as business can get. But Nachi is also in need of marketing or gimmicks but hopefully useful and honest ones. Saying your above all that and relying on your principles only gets you what?
I disagree with you on not having a committee though. Sure we can voice our opinion but that often comes across as musings or complaints.
Paul, there used to be a committee in place to do exactly what you are saying. It was called ESOP the ethics committee. Nick would still do whatever he wanted on issues, thus it was useless and nothing but another futile attempt at legitimizing NACHI.
Sure they can. All they need to do is plaster Nathan’s phony expert logo all over their marketing material.
And if things continue the way you’ve chosen it’s only a matter of time before the certified Expert inspector logo and the certified Master inspector logo will be one of the same as far as the public is concerned.
Perhaps some of the confusion is the term “partnered”.
Very common term used by marketers to give a false impression of merger or combined effort that does not exist.
Anyway, don’t confuse this thread where I alert members about a vendor’s offer with my personal opinions about the vendor’s products. My personal opinions are mine and I’ve already expressed them. In a nutshell, here they are again: Some of Nathan’s products are great. Some are not. One in particular should be avoided.
I’d use RecallChek if I were a home inspector. Now don’t get me wrong, no consumer is going to hire a home inspector just because they check the dishwasher for recalls. No one buys a Lamborghini because it has a 6-CD changer. But it is a nice little add-on that I would very likely use if I were a home inspector.
No they can’t. No home inspector can use his “Certified Inspection Expert” designation.
Home inspectors are generalists. The word “expert” has a certain legal meaning. Read pages 11-14 of SLEEP WELL: A Home Inspector’s Guide to Managing Risk to find out why you should never refer to yourself as an expert. Furthermore, if you use his “Certified Inspection Expert” mark, you are agreeing to EXCEED your SOP. Your SOP is what protects you. It’s what your E&O insurance is based on. It’s what your pre-inspection contract is based on. Using “Certified Inspection Expert” allows a plaintiff’s attorney to go after you personally (You’re the one claiming to be an expert and claiming that you exceed your SOP). You’re personally naked at that point. Without an SOP, your pre-inspection agreement is meaningless. You’ve agreed to exceed your SOP so an inspection agreement that references your SOP is toilet paper. You’ll have no SOP to protect you. No pre-inspection agreement to protect you. And you’ll be making two PERSONAL claims that are both nuts: 1. That you are an expert (better be able to back that up) and that you exceed your SOP (which means your SOP is meaningless). See the last line of the attached screenshot from the USPTO.gov website: Claiming to be a “Certified Inspection Expert” is a good way to lose your home.
But don’t take my word for it. How many existing CMIs have come on this message board and other inspection forums and testified that CMI made them a lot of money? Are all of those inspectors from all parts of this continent lying?
Still not convinced? Let me take the risk out of it. Become a CMI and do what I tell you to do in www.certifiedmasterinspector.org/power If your CMI doesn’t make you a ton of money within the first 3 months, relinquish the professional designation for a full refund. No questions asked. There are roughly 1,000 CMIs in the world and the number of them that have asked for a refund is… Zero. It’s that good.
If your not being facetious then yes, if you are being sarcastic all I can say is we are working to improve all the time. Its the #1 goal of the awards committee.
I think any committee should have a large degree of transparency, but not be all transparent. Any committee and member of those committees is there to serve the general population of members. You volunteer and sometimes you get a thank you and sometimes you get the opposite but regardless of how your perceived you must still be believing your doing good. There are exceptions to that of course but for the most part its true.
For this industry, I’ve spoken and written a lot of words. I wrote hundreds of articles. I did a couple hundred videos. I did webinars. I’ve done personal presentations in nearly every city in North America. I teach courses. I give talks at conventions and events. I created online courses. I authored standards. I wrote a few dozen books. And I’ve made 55,000 posts on this message board.
That’s millions and millions of words, and I stand by every one of them.
I think that’s enough of you to ask of me… to be responsible for the words I’ve spoken and written.
